Mine has been doing the same. Try taking the atty off and firing, to force the "check atomizer" message. Should reset the resistance to 9.99 ohms. Then put your atty back on to see if it forces the "new coil" message. Has been working for me anyway. Now I should mention that all my builds I've tried so far on this mod have been between 0.25 - 0.28 ohms so maybe they were all to close for the mod to tell the difference?

Sent from my XT1049 using Tapatalk

I got that to work once or twice, but I haven't found a consistent method. I'll back the atty off, fire and get "new atomizer," screw atty down, fire and still get .33 even though the new atty is .44 checked. The mod works so I'm not sending it back. Really annoying though.

So, I got the dripbox 160... I didn't feel any burs inside the battery housing, but did notice I had to put the battery on the + side up in first to get the second to go in cleanly. I didn't have to force the second in when I did it this way - it just dropped right in. When I tried in reverse order? I could feel that it was going to grate the wrap.

I can't get the TC mode to work, actually. I tightened down the screws on the coils and still no go. The temp starts wildly jumping up and down, and it jumps back in to wattage mode and fires. That's with the stock build on the velocity style deck. I'll throw a new build in this evening and see if I can get the temp control to work properly with a NiCr build.

Other than that, the thing hits like a beast and tastes great. Admittedly, the dripbox 60w right out of the box was a great vape with no cotton flavour. The 160 took about 7-10 draws to get rid of the cottony taste. Again, default build right out of the box...

The SS sure is pretty, but damn is it a fingerprint magnet.

Oh, I also forgot to mention... I have a spare dna200 board laying around. I'm actually thinking of working on retrofitting it in here. It really shouldn't be too hard... :)

Figured out the TC issue. It seems to be the coils that came with the kit. Built a set of SS coils and temp control is working fine.
And it works fantastic with NiCr build. :)

So, I figured I'd share my entire experience and all of my thoughts on this little box with everyone. Usually, people like to start with the pro's, but I'll go with the con's first.

As a note, one thing I always hear people talk about is the 1 second delay between the time you hit the fire button and it ramps up... Well, that's because the fire button has four functions: fire, change the mode (VW/TC), use in combination with the other buttons for more functions and power the box on/off. I wouldn't want it firing every time I wanted to change the modes, lock the settings or turn it off. That's just me, though.

Cons:

  1. The box is relatively heavy, making it not so ideal for a pocket carry - but I can manage.
  2. The SS does, indeed, have some bur issues in the battery housing. It would be best to file them, but, if you're careful and gentle (treat it like your virgin girlfriend on prom night) - you can get the batteries in without marking them. This isn't a "spit on it and stick it in" type motion you want to use here.
  3. The included RDA isn't that wonderful and the build space on even the velocity deck isn't very much to work with.
  4. It only comes with one velocity style deck, and the other one included is from the original dripbox (why?)
  5. Dealing with .1 increments in the wattage seems like a waste to me, as you don't really produce much of a difference at 90.0 or 90.9 - at that point, you might as well use 90.0 or 91.0. While it's cool to have that level of tuning, it adds more difficulty to go up one or two watts.
  6. The included spit guard restricts airflow quite heavily. I'd recommend not using it.

Pros:

  1. I The mod, even with the stock RDA, produces very rich and strong flavour.
  2. Battery life is very adequate. I'm a heavy vaper, and this thing lived through an entire day and still had half charge come this morning.
  3. You can use it while the mod is plugged in via USB. I'd recommend externally charging your batteries, but it's good to know it works.
  4. It has the power to handle just about any build you want to throw at it. So far, I've tried single, dual and quad builds on it, and it rips through them with the greatest of ease. (Note: I wouldn't try a quad build on the included RDA - it will definitely make you want to gouge your own eyes out with a fondue fork while trying to build it, which isn't good for anyone).
  5. The squonk works great. Much better than the original dripbox, IMO. I think the reasoning behind it is the addition of the two holes in the center/bottom of the velocity style deck. It has the holes all around the RDA like the original did, but I decided to test with my original dripbox squonk bottle and I still had the same ease of squonking. The holes in the deck definitely help, and you will always fully soak both the coils and the wick.
  6. It comes with tons of accessories compared to others, and let's be honest: who doesn't love accessories? Sure, you have the extra squonk bottle - but you also get a cap with it this time, making it ideal for filling with another liquid and bringing it with you on the go. (Though, I tend to drip on it more than I squonk). If you're the type to lose the tiny deck screws, have no fear: They include two extra sets of post screws for the velocity style deck, and one set of screws extra for the original two post round deck included. Cotton? Check. Extra coils? Check. USB cable? Check. Everything you need is here. Done, like dinner.
  7. It comes with .3 claptons, and they really are not that bad. The pre-build decks coils do look a little bleh, but that's clearly because a machine pulled the cotton through and botched up the positioning of the coils. It's nothing a pair of ceramic tweezers and flicks of the finger on the power can't fix. The coils work fantastic even as is: they ramp up quick, and they produce a ton of vapor - and the taste is pretty damn good.
  8. The bottle door is magnetic, which some people may dislike - but I personally love it. It's one less hinge to worry about accidentally breaking. And the magnet is very strong, so you aren't going to lose it.
  9. With my batteries (Sony VTC5A's) - the thing NEVER gets hot. The RDA gets hot enough to cook breakfast on, but the mod itself stays cool at all times - which is great.

I'm not getting the spitting that everyone is complaining about, even without the spit guard installed. I think that may simply be a case of over saturating the coils. I hear a pop from time to time when I first ramp it up, but it hasn't resulted in hot juice hitting neither my mouth nor my face, so I'm pleased.

All in all, this box is absolutely great, and it has - without a doubt - made its way in to my daily use category. I can live with the heavy feeling in my pocket.

If you're a stickler for perfection, the SS model is not for you. Aside from the aforementioned issues with the battery, it's a magnet for finger prints, but it's really not so terrible that it bothers me.

All in all, I give it a 9.0 in my opinion. :)

Upcoming fun: I've already started fabricating a set of buttons to retrofit a dna200 chip in to it. It's a very tight squeeze where the board is, but I think I can manage. I'm going to order a second dripbox 160 for this project. This run, I'll get the black and make it my primary, and I'll opt to frankenstein the SS so I can also take care of filing down the inside of the battery housing while I'm at it.

Good review, very thorough. :) Thanks for mentioning the accessories. I went right to an atty I like and never looked in the box.

FWIW, I have the "stainless" model and it has no burs. Does have a battery door that doesn't close quite flush, so the mod's a bit of a rocker.

Mine ripped up some "less than perfect" older batteries I put in at first, but I have some brand new LGs I've been able to swap in and out of my SS model with no problems. And yeah, mine rocks too.

I just ordered the SS this past Monday and it should be here either by Friday or Monday. I'm curious if anyone has gotten the SS and not had any issues with the battery compartment burrs... I had requested the place I ordered it from send me a black if they had any in stock due to this - but told them to send the SS if they didn't have any (didn't see them available). Looks like they didn't, as the shipping confirmation they sent me shows "silver."

Worst-case scenario, I'll take a file to it before using it. I do find it to be a damn shame that people are having to go through this on a brand new product - but at the same time, I've heard really good things about the mod. This will be my first regulated mod (coming from mech's and dripbox 60w).

Scored the SS 160 and haven't noticed any issues with the batteries sticking. What I do notice is that the battery door is no longer "level" with the rest of the bottom. Kinda "rocks" a bit, but not the end of my world. Grabbed a black one, too. Just would like to source a few more bottles (as I also have a couple of original Dripboxes)

That's one thing I can't figure out - Kangertech sells the decks, the coils... But I don't see replacement drip tips nor replacement squonk bottles anywhere for sale. It would be nice to be able to grab a few more of the bottles with the tops on them.

Yeah, it's actually because the metal case is slightly too short. If you look at the magnet, it sits flush/even with the battery door (at least, on mine). However, my end table next to my bed is metal - so it works out for me. The magnet sticks to it and no rocking action. :D

A LOT of people have made comments that the claptons that come with the DB160 are garbage and leave much to be desired... To be honest, I think they're just fine. I have no issues with them. I threw the extra set that came with the accessories in another mod and they're working great. I think some people are simply biased and it changes their perception, perhaps?

Ha! That's AWESOME :D The table beside my chair has a placemat; my vape station is an old computer hutch, so I notice the rocking there more.

Just noticed... Welcome to ECF :)

Thank you! :) It was interesting to find this site. I was doing some research on the 160 and ran in to this thread. I figured I'd join the crowd and hang around. There seems to be a lot of friendly and intelligent people here - my kind of crowd.

I think the DripBox 160W uses the same bottle as the DripBox 60w.

But I know that these are Replacements for the DripBox 60W.

Dripbox Bottle 7ml - DIY, Bottles, Syringes - Accessories

BTW - Mine didn't come with any Caps.
