Ahoy-hoy!

I recently bought a Kanger EVOD, to go with my Spinner battery, for an easy, lightweight "out-and-about" (read: drunk) e-cig setup.
However I'm getting a slight plastic-like taste on the first few drags when I use it - am I the only one?
Initially I just rinsed it out with water, filled it, vaped it and got the plastic taste.
Then, I gave it a good 12 hour vodka soak. I also rebuilt the coil, but still get the plastic taste - and no, it's not the rubber grommet burning, no scorch marks on it.
If anybody else experienced this, how the heck did you get rid of that plastic taste?

Thanks in advance.

Mostly, I've been using at about 3.9-4 volts, with a 2.3-2.4 Ohm rebuilt coil...
I don't know, maybe I've just gotten too used to the pretty pure taste from the Protank, so I notice the plastic more in the EVOD.
Maybe I should just wait for the Kanger T3S (or was that just a dream I had?) with the new EVOD/Protank like base, where the base and coil are two pieces, for easier rebuilding :)

That rubber taste is in many clearos even the Evod but very little. You get used to it quickly but if you come from RBA or carto to a clearo you will likelly taste it. I don't know what that smell is. I changed coil, the wicks, even removed the silicon seal and still can taste it. It's a mystery I'd like to solve.

I've gotten that taste on (M)T3s, T3Ss, and a funk from a Protank. I got rid of it by doing a 10 minute boil of all parts, heads included, and then a 10+ minute soak of all parts (other than heads, O rings, anything silicone) in 50/50 distilled water/white vinegar, folled by a quick rinse in distilled water afterwards. Seems to work everytime for me.

I've recently discovered that when I put new coil in Evod and give it a few slow long draws at 8-10W to really heat it all up and burn it in, the rubber taste clears out to useable level. This brings me to an idea that perhaps most high Voltage vapers don't experience this rubber taste because it gets burned out. Kind of a semi working theory anyway.

I've finally figured out what is that rubber smell in Evods (and many other clearos). The odor is coming from the bottom seal. It is made of rubber and it off gases the odor. If you got a new head, take a sniff. Sometimes it's strong enough to smell it outright. The rubber looses it's odor with age so depending on how recently made the heads are it might smell a lot, little or even not at all tho I've never had that luck with new head yet. Solution? I boiled bunch of new heads for 20 minutes. It got 80% better. Leaving the heads to dry over night got rid of more odor. Soaking in alcohol over night might work too but I don't have any so can't try this method. Enjoy cleaner flavor.

Yes the rubber grommet is more or less the main culprit in plasticy/rubbery tastes. Heat does transfer down the legs and sometimes you can even get a "hot leg" that burns the grommet, but you will DEFINITELY know it if that happens.

If you are really obsessive about getting rid of that taste, you can "circumcise" the grommet, cutting the tip of it off so it clears the coil further and heats up less. Usually you will be in the process of rebuilding your coil when you take out the grommet but it is not impossible to take it out and put the legs back in successfully with the same coil.

Beginner Vaper here. I built my first coil ever last night (32 awg wire, 2 mm wick, 5/4 wrap (hope I said that right)) for my Evod and I was getting a plastic taste and the juice flavor was dull (Mt dew). I was so disgusted with whole thing I just put it back in the tackle box and put a 1.7 cartomizer back on. Guess I should get a tank, and just stick with my cartos =/
