I'm really really really new to vaping. I'm 10 days without the stinkies and I couldn't be happier. However, I know NOTHING about this hobby so far. I'm learning slowly, and am slowly figuring out my way around this website, but for now I just have to ask your forgiveness if this is covered elsewhere.

So I have two ego twists and two evods. I've been using the one that just failed on me for... 5-6 days now. I'm sensitive to PG so I'm vaping a mixture that's low in it. Since I've done some mixing, matching and diluting, I'm not sure exactly how low. Anyway, one of my evods just crapped out on me. I have some Kangertech pro tank 2.5ohm coils which I THINK are an okay replacements for the evod coils. First of all, is that right?

Secondly, the tank and coil are currently soaking in vodka. Is that right too? Is the coil the same as an atomizer? Am I ruining it by soaking it? Is it pointless to do this? Should I just replace it?

Hi, Gina, and welcome to ECF!

Although I've been a vapor for 15 months, I've just started using the Kanger ProTanks and Evod clearomizers. I had been using cartotanks almost exclusively prior to this, but since my daughter just began vaping and I suspected a cartotank might be beyond her experience and patience level, I decided to include her starter setup with the easier clearomizers.

I do know that the atomizer heads (replaceable) for the Evod can be used in the ProTank, but I'm not certain that the reverse is true. If the ProTank heads will fit in the Evod, I see know reason not to use them.

The heating coil is indeed in the head, as well as the wick. You can use either hot water, vodka, or Everclear alcohol to soak the heads. Rinse them in water and allow them to thoroughly dry before using them again.

Hope that helps. :)

Good advice. I actually just started using an EVOD with my VAMO V3 and like it a lot. However, the heads do have some soft rubber o-rings on them and I'm not sure that I would expose them to alcohol; I worry that the alcohol will degrade the rubber and possibly cause leaking. I do like soaking my atty's in vodka overnight, especially if I've been dripping a strong flavor, but they don't seem to have any rubber in them.

Maybe I worry about it for no reason, but for me I've just been soaking them in hot water and that seems to clean the old flavor out of the wicks pretty well. If there is any flavor creep after I refill the EVOD it usually goes away within a few vapes.

Thank you both. Okay, so I'm not flat out killing the atty by soaking it. I'll remove the rubber ring asap. I'm not sure why it just up and quit on me like it did, but I hear they don't last forever so I guess I wasn't surprised.

I really need to learn about all of this, because my ultimate goal is to find pieces and parts that are reliable, easy to use/maintain, and hopefully are pretty. Okay, watching the video now.

So... it turns out that they do fit. And so far they're working. I hope I don't fry my twist using it, but so far so good!

Eta: Meh, not sure what I did wrong with the quoting, but I'll figure this all someday.

Use care with the bottom rubber ring/silicon gasket. That one serves as the insulator between the negative body of the coil head and the positive inner post. It also holds the two leads from the coil in place so that they make contact with the outer body and inner post. If you remove it, be careful not to pull the coil through.

This is in fact one of the common failure points of EVOD style heads, as the leads from the coil sometimes protrude enough to cause a short. This may even be what has happened to you. This post describes it in more detail, but essentially if you feel a metal barb sticking out when you rotate the base of the coil head between your fingers, you should try to push that wire back in or cut it off.

Glad you got it working! :)

P.S.

I'm not sure I'd soak the tank in vodka for long as a general rule. Rinse maybe. As a generalization, vodka, vinegar, various other alcohols, can do wonders on removing paint (on things that are painted) and also leave aftertaste. So I'd rinse em only or very short duration soak to help...sterilize and clean.

I think the rubber/silicone used in most rings is fairly sturdy. But I mostly use water for soaking long periods so I'm a bit unsure of how it will hold up over time with alcohol in the solution.

ETA: P.P.S.
Since you asked, what you probably did was delete the trailing [/QUOTE] off the quotation when you deleted the remainder.

Yes, that's the ticket. I'll know better now.

I only soaked things for about an hour. It still smelled like the previous liquid, but since I was going to put the same in, I didn't mind. My original coil is still drying and I'll leave it over night. I'm just glad the protank atty's work in the evods.

I have three more evods enroute, but I'm dying to learn about other mods so I can have some seriously classy, girly, pretty mods. Even if I have to learn how to be a DIYer to make it work. <3
