I think this might be the wrong section, but my posting priviledges are limited because I'm new.

I'm trying to purchase my first BOX mod, and Im torn between starting with Kanger or Joyetech. The 4 models I've been scrutinizing are the Joyetech eVic-VT Kit 60W/Joyetech eVic-VTC Mini 60W and Kanger Subox Nano/Kanger Subox Mini.

I've been vaping since February 2014, just using basic 900/1100mhz batteries and Aspire BDC clearomizers. I usually alternate between 18 and 24 mg juice (70% PG/ 30% VG) and the most important thing for me is the throat hit. I'm hoping to lower my nicotene dose to 15% (and eventually 6%) as I start using more intermediate/advices devices. I plan on also buying a medium sized device like the Joyetech eGo One/eLeaf iJust to carry around, but would like to start with a box mod first to see how big the difference is from a level one device.

My goal right now isnt to cut off the nicotine completely, I just dont want to be completely screwed if I were to ever need go quit completely because of health issues ,like pregnancy (since I currently prefer 24mg, which I know is quite high). I'm also fed up of using lower end devices that clog up 10 times a day... the only positive I can come up with regarding my current devices is that I have managed to get away with them in public because Ive learned how to use it without the vapour showing.

Anywho, Im just trying to narrow it down to at least one brand out of Joyetech and Kangertech, and I still dont really know the difference between nano/mini and regular when it comes to performance and throat hit, I just know the sizing is different (I dont really care about the size).

Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Feel free to note the little particular things, because Im the kind of person who buys something with bad reviews because the "cons" are something I like!

:)

If I had to pick between the two, hands down I would choose Kangertech. Honestly I would quit vaping if Joyetech was my only option.

Subox, you need 18650 batteries, also an external charger is better for that one. The tank it comes with it great and max of 50w on that device. The Nano always uses an 18650. Max of 50w also. The tank is just a tiny bit smaller. Subox one is 4.5ml I believe, nano is 3.0ml for juice capacity.

You're probably asking why the hate towards Joyetech in my post. I had a few Joyetech products. All fell apart within weeks, Joyetech's customer service is terrible and warranty doesn't seem to exist with them. I tried for a couple months to get a reply from them, only to get blocked on all social media accounts because they wanted to hide my complaints and refused to answer my warranty claims.

I've only had minimal experience with any of the mods you mentioned. My nephew is using a Joyetech Evic VTC Mini, which he seems to like a lot. He has not used the TC (temp control mode), as I am the one making the coils in his dripper and I have no experience with nickle or titanium wire, just kanthal.

Since this may be the first time using external batteries, I will provide some useful information for you. Batteries I do know something about...

Good suggestion from Tol to visit a local B&M to see the mods in person before then ordering online.

The Kanger Subox is an excellent mod and tank (subtank mini v2). I've had one since they were released and it's been a fantastic little unit, and by far my best mod/tank for travel. As previously mentioned too by MMW the subtank mini comes also with a rebuildable deck in addition to the stock coils.

My subox has been dropped several times and abused on a daily basis and it's never missed a beat.

Hi Angela! Is there a reason you are trying to limit your choices to Joyetech and Kanger? Both companies are good, but there are many other great box mods and toppers on the market.

Thanks guys! I was aiming towards Joytech but I think now Kanger sounds like a safer idea.

The reason I chose those two brands is because I bookmarked about 15 kits box mod kits on Cigabuy, and then filtered them using Youtube videos, checking the availability and price of replacement parts and compatibility with other tanks. I tend to stick with more "popular" devices when starting something new because I find it easier to find replacement pieces a for good prices. Especially since our dollar is weak right now in Canada, the Canadian sites are a lot more expensive than ordering from overseas (and its even worse in stores) and the exchange rate on American sites make a lot of them not worthwhile. Even if I order from China in American dollars, the price is still good after the exchange rate. Canada also has a big problem with stopping American orders at the border but for some reason lets in stuff from Korea/China/UK with no issues.

I'm probably going to order a medium sized device next (by medium, I mean something like the eGo One... I dont really know the proper term for that sort of device).

I would suggest, if possible and you have not done so already, find a local vape shop that carries them, so you can see them in person and get an idea of how they feel to you before making a decision.

I think this was the icing on the cake to making my decision. I am the WORST when it comes to dropping my vapourizers, and after hearing of all these Joytech machines breaking, I think Im going to go with the Kanger!

I actually did go play with them, and was pleased with both, I was just worried because they were brand new and I wanted to know how long they would actually last and how easy the maintenance is.

Thank you so much for this! That was actually my next step! Cigabuy had a bunch of 18650 batteries and I had no idea which one to choose and how important a dock charger was compared to charging via the unit! :)

Good thing I read your battery articles. I was about to go buy a crappy Coolfire battery. I copy-pasted your list of suggested batteries and am going to choose from those after shopping around.

Explosions are literally my biggest fear. I wont even leave a regular EVOD battery plugged in at home while Im gone.

I use a IPV D2 with a SubTank mini and love it. I agree, the eGo One Mega Tanks that come with the eVic are terrible. I am not feeling the love for JoyeTech lately (They also own eleaf/iSmoka by the way) personally, but that horse is being beaten in other threads. I do hear great things about the KBoxes though. Also Innokin Disrupters work well, if you don't mind buying their batteries for it.

That's not fear, that's just "good sense" talking. :)

Good for you.

The more I read about LiPo batts the more I think I want to steer clear, given that these days they also seem to be inside many of the "cheaper" devices. Not sure I want to trust a cheapo regulated mod to protect me from a LiPo battery malfunction. That's just me. Yes they are used in so many other consumer electronic devices but most of those are not close to my face "most of the time".
