So I got around to finally ordering a couple Kanger Protanks after seeing such great reviews on them. Been vaping one 4 days now and I'm really trying to love it.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong but I just don't get the flavour I should. Occasionally I'll get a couple good hits with great flavour, usually not until the tank is half empty, or half full depending on which side of that fence you fall on. More often I get more of a dry, burnt tasting hit.

I did notice that it was much worse if I tightened the tank down until it was flush so I keep it backed off some (guessing something's getting squished and causing a slight short somewhere maybe). I read somewhere that there is a flavour wick added to the top of the coil so I pulled out at least part of it (didn't want to pull out any more than I did as it seems like it would probably allow juice into the center tube if I did).

Vapour production is very nice and it tastes real good when it tastes good. But it's been far from consistent thus far. All in all it just acts like it's not wicking adequately or something. Juice is 70/30 pg/vg, not thick at all.

There's no doubt in my mind that it's user error but I'm stumped.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Been using a couple of PT's for 2 weeks or so now. Occasionally I have gotten a slight burnt taste. When I do, I just do a couple of pulls without activating the PV, then the burnt taste goes away. I think this means that it's not wicking fast enough to keep up. Not all of the factory heads have done this. There is likely some variation in the assembly of their heads and I suspect some have coils wrapped too tightly, choking the wick. I did recoil one head with Kanthal wire and bamboo. It has been fine and I've had no burnt flavor. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply, Flyer. I guess I'll just keep fiddling with it until I hopefully get it figured out. I bought a ton of heads for it and have tried 3 separate ones with pretty much the same results. I haven't gone as far as pulling a head apart and recoiling as I was hoping it wouldn't be necessary for this tank. Maybe I'll give that a shot whenever I can find that elusive "spare time."

Wondering now if it's just tank pressurization thing. I haven't measured how much juice I was filling it with but I know I couldn't put a drop more.

I just took the head out to see if I could get apart by hand (I can't) and then put it back together. So far I'm chain vaping it and no dry hits. Maybe I just need to fill slightly less?

Guess I'll know later tonight after the next fill.

Some of 'em are stuck in there pretty tight. I don't even bother trying to get them out by hand any more. I have a pair of needle nose pliers that make that task much, much easier.

I noticed on some juices like the thicker ones I needed to yoink the top wick too. Only draw back is I let the tank law on its side the one night and the little bugger dumped on me. I also notice that when the tank gets to about ill say "visible glass half" I get a bit of a burnt flavor, but if I take my voltage down by about 0.2 volts it clears up just fine. So far I still love the little things and if I could change the drip tip it would be my favorite tank to date(in time not take to the movies, but I do that too).

I am still playing with the tank a bit, but I hope this helped you a bit.

Just an update in case it helps anyone:

Got home last night and put tools to a new head. Pulled the center tube off and turned the head upside down. Two "flavour wicks" fell right out. I could see the coil at this point. It looked like something my clumsy hands would have built but not altogether bad so I put it all back together as it was, less the two wicks, and filled it up just to the top of the glass. I fully expected it to dump juice pretty efficiently once I turned it right side up but to my surprise it didn't dump a drop.

It's doing much better now as far as dry hits goes, but the flavour still seems a little muted. It was great first thing this morning but has fallen off quite a bit. Maybe I'll find some spare time soon and try rebuilding a head to see if I can do any better than the factory. Until that point though I'll stick with my drippers and cartos.

On another note: I hear a lot about this thing having a very airy draw. It did seem like it when I first got it but after a day it has tightened up to about the same as a Wyvern/Rainbow RDA. Seems a little odd to me but glad I don't have to worry about filling any air channels on the bottom.

I'll keep updating if/when I figure anything else out just in case my experience might help someone else.

Thanks all for your replies and help. :toast:
