Ok I've seen a LOT of posts on problems and fixes for the pro tank and I have to say most of what I've tested personally has been hit or miss on effectiveness. One thing that has been right is the vg content of the juice being a factor. I haven't been able to confirm it other than from my own experience but Kanger tanks ALWAYS work flawlessly with 100% pg and 80pg/20vg, the latter only shortening cleaning time between dry burns due to the vg sugar content. I have mini's, evods and 2's and I have virtually no issues until I get a 30% or higher VG content. Then its all wicking issues and not the heads or tank. Now there was some QC issues with the heads for a bit and I was finding badly wrapped coils that would short or have hot spots but in the last 30+ factory heads I have found no issues.
THat being said here are a few things I do to set up my tanks.
1 I only use 1.8 or 2.2 ohm heads. Silica no matter how good just can't wick fast enough or hold enough juice to feed a 1.5 ohm head at smaller than 2mm diameter. 2.2 gives me the best balance between batt life and vapor/taste for my preference but 2.5 heads do work well.
2 Before using a new head I use a sewing straight pin (the kind for pinning seams) and work it into the wick in the coil. This loosens up the fibers some and helps even up the coil wraps. If you prime the wick with the pin in it it will help even the coil -wick contact and eliminate hot spots. (this has been less needed with recent batch coils)
3 if my juice is 30% vg I remove 1 flavor wick or I replace both flavor wicks with a small amount of cotton gauze folded to about .5 mm thick x 2mm wide. Tight mesh gauze wicks even better than cotton balls IMO. I rarely vape over 30% VG personally. Under 30% and flooding does occur with only 1 flavor wick. 50%+ vg and I recommend you thin it out some as 30% seems to be the high limit for good performance in a pro tank without major modding of the heads.
4 On a new head or freshly cleaned head I take drags doing 2-3 sec button presses for the first several puffs just to make sure I don't over do it right off because it does take about 5 min for the wicks to get soaked thoroughly.
5 use a VV bat even just an ego twist as some juices like a lower volt setting or stick to 2.2 ohm coils on regular fixed volt batts and varry the button press time.
Other than that I clean and dry burn /rewick my coils about once a month unless its my coffee juice or a caramel that leaves a heavy sugar build up in the wicks or I'm just rinsing the wicks fort a flavor change. I have noticed also that on some ego threaded batts the draw is more airy and in that case you have more chance of a dry/burnt hit. I have also found no noticeable effect from flipping the stem cap seal upside down.
If you use 50%+ vg and do it successfully on a factory coil without resorting to a full cotton rewick please add your tips as I try to stick with 80pg/20vg myself and can't speak to high vg juices (until I get my totally vapid out order
