TO update the saga if me and cotton wick.

Yesterday I went to wal mart and grabbed a ball of undyed Peaches & Creme 100% cotton yarn. I unrolled about 2 meters of the stuff. stuck it in a pot of boiling distilled water for 15 minutes. Changed the water twice more boiling for 15 minutes each time. Did one final rinse and squeezed as much water out as I could by rolling it in a paper towel. Let it dry.

I then proceeded to take my first shot at rebuilding a protank head. It took 3 tries but hey I am new at this :)

I have 5 wraps of kanthal 32 gauge around 1 piece of this yarn and for the flavor wick I separated out 2 plys of the yarn (it is 4 ply off the roll) and used those. It came in at 1.9 ohms which is fine on my vamo.

My assessment. It took a little longer than silica to break in (about 20 puffs) but now that it is this thing is wicking and tasting better than the original silica wicks ever did. I am loving it and loving the fact that should I not be able to order silica wicking material for whatever reason this is a viable option.

I've been using 1mm hemp twine from love pedal on eBay and it works wonderfully in my EVOD and ProTank heads. 1 piece through 1 piece over. Recently decided to go back to 1mm silica ( much thinner than 1mm natural)I had off eBay from ravensburg Germany. 3 pieces through the coil and 3 over works like a charm.

Figured I would order 1.5mm to make the process easier. 2 through 2 over. Ordered off eBay from Texas. It's significantly larger than the 1mm and seems more rigid. Just will not fit through the coil I make and a single piece isn't enough. I thread the coil after. Anyone know why such a difference?

I buy my silica from PBdragon.com They generally have lots of sizes in stock, their prices are hard to beat, and I find their silica of a much better quality than that I've gotten from some other vendors in the past.

I ordered from pbdragon based on this post and it's true. The quality is top notch. I am using the 3mm and it's working perfect in the evod. I won't use anything else now.

This newbie (3 mos w/o analogs) is wondering where you go to learn about making your own 'new coils' and rebuilding the attys - if I'm using the right terms (grin). I'd love to see a close-up video on the process, like, do you need a soldering iron to tack the ends of the wire to something? hmmm

Here you go. This is for for the evod. Same process for protank and vivi nova.

After vaping for 68 days , I've experimented with many set ups. From DID's ( SS Mesh ) Silica , Cotton balls, ( twisted to wick diameter ) , 100% Cotton yarn and Steril Gauze ( twisted to wick diameter ). The cotton yarn and gauze win hands down for me. Great , Soft, Tasty, Big Vape hits from an MT3 ( bottom fed wick ) with 1/2" of twisted gauze and a 1/2" piece of cotton yarn as the flavor wick ( on top ).
The MT3 wicked this way will last from 10 to 20 ml of e-juice before needing. Re-build, ( which costs about .08 cents )
