Kanger PT3 coil issues

I have a Kanger PT3 sitting on my eVic. I run it with the variable wattage feature starting at 6.8 watts for .5 sec, and ramp it down to 5 watts within the next second carrying through until completion (averaging 4.5 seconds).

My coils last 2 days at best. At first it hits well. It has decent taste and flavor, neither is amazing but it works pretty well. Then I get hot hits, like a scorching of my throat, with nominal vapor and flavor. I have tried cleaning and dry burning to no avail. But I did notice that my top coil didn't light up well. This happened with both of the stock coils that came with it as well as my purchased factory Kanger 2 ohm units.

So I decided to rip down the 3 heads I have saved to possibly rebuild (doing a ton of reading and learning and I am waiting for my KFL to learn on a platform designed to be rebuilt [ie easier to access] before diving into rebuilding the tiny space on the PT3 head) to see what was going on. For some reason all 3 of the top coils have a kink in the positive leg, right before the coil. I know that a kink can cause a hot spot and not allow the coil to fire from the center, and I assume this is what is happening with my coils. They are reading between 1.9 and 2.1 ohms, and they are 2 ohm factory coils.

What is going on? This is frustrating. I have no issues with my iClear30B (also a BDC tank) or my PT2. I do like the way the PT3 functions, but the cost of running it isn't worth it to me at this point.

Any input on what might be going on would be amazing.

that kink is actually a weld spot,,kanger puts NR wire on their coils down to the contacts spots

i am wondering,,are the V2 and V3 heads interchangeable ??

They are not. Different depths. The V2 is a single coil and the V3 is a dual. The base is interchangeable though, if that has anything to do with your idea.

base of the head ,or base they screw into ??

can you post a side by side of the 2 heads ??

Same base they screw in to. The height of the center tube contact is vastly different. The PT3 is on the left and the PT2 is on the right. The PT3 head gives me a lot more room to rebuild in...

Not a great pic, I took it with my cell in low light, but it should show you what you need. If you want a better pic just let me know.

It might just be your PT3. Have you tried vaping on another PT3?

I have not. But I put a new coil in last night and popped it today, less than 1/2 a tank into it. I am honestly sick and tired of it. I am going to try to rebuild it with a single coil and see how that does me.

oh dam,,big difference there,,guess kanger is trying to keep up the proprietary crowd ?!?!

those are dual coils ?? i never had any luck or liked anything dual coil,,unless it was a geney

try rebuilding one single coil ,if possible

They are dual coils. I am going to try to string a single into it before long. My PT2 is a single coil, which is why the PT3 coils are significantly larger. FWIW the PT2 has been a great little unit. Not quite as much flavor or vapor, but reliable as hell.

My iClear BDC works great. Granted, I have only had it ~5 days, but it is still going strong with the original coil head.

I just received one of my Aspire BDC Glassos today (I actually got a big vape mail delivery today, coils, batteries, charger, tanks, shorty tubes...). It tastes better and produces better clouds than the PT3 does even when the PT3 is working. With the black cover it looks better on the black eVic as well... but I do have to say that the black plastic drip tip seems cheap, but the unit did cost ~ 1/2 that of the Kangers. While I have only had it ~5 hours I have almost drained it and it seems to be a much better choice for me right now. We'll see about it's longevity though.

As far as the size, I would say the coil/wick chamber is roughly the same size as the Aspire BDCs I got today. The aspire is a bit bigger overall though, because the seal is internal rather than external like the Kanger.
