as you can tell I am a newbie here. I have read tons on your forums and it has helped me in very many ways. I cannot post anywhere else but I would like to ask advice. I got my vaporshark rDNA 40 yesterday and also a pack of kanger ni200 occ coils. now when I first started using the coils it was great good amount of vapor and great taste. now about 16 hours later I keep hitting temp protection almost immediately and barely any flavor. the top of the coil looks gunky already and I don't think I should be replacing these daily. I was vaping around 25-30 watts with temp set at 400.. any idea on why this coil doesn't seem to want to wick?

any help or advice would be appreciated and I thank you in advance for letting me a part of these forums and for any suggestions that are offered.

I do have a bad habit of chain vaping, one of the main reasons for buying the rdna 40 and the nickel. I'm using an 80vg/20pg mix and I have tried that it works for a couple hits and that's it.

I tend to chain vape too and am used to drippers. Since I normally use 80-80+ vg I have a similar problem. Take primer hits often will help re-saturate. 30/70 pg/vg is optimal for these type tanks but doesn't mean 80 vg won't work, it just won't wick optimally.

Yeah, I chain vape too on my Subtank and thought it was the coils itself, till I realized nothing was wrong with my coils, it was the chain vaping causing the dry hits, because if you look at the coils, theres not much cotton in there to begin with. Higher VG liquids don't help with it wicking either.

AS someone suggested, use less VG liquids, it may help. But otherwise, primer pulls and less chain vaping/long inhales. Kinda sucks but might go to a dripper now.

I find the 50/50 helps with the dry hits, I still occasionally get one when I do long inhales. But I like higher VG better MORE CLOUDSSSSSSSSS

I will try that and see what happens. Ive been making sure they're the same temperature as well. I could try some 70/30 but the place i order my juice from only makes their juice in 80vg/20pg. would be worth buying some from somewhere else I suppose

Hi ruckus and welcome aboard!

You might also ask the place that you get your juice from if they will make you some in your preferred ratio. Some place will accomodate requests like that.

EDIT: Or you could put a few drops of distilled water in your juice to thin it down a bit

Hope it helps and Happy Vaping!

I never realized you could add distilled water to thin the juice down.. I will have to look up the way to do that. One of the reasons I bought a DNA40 was so I wouldn't have to worry about burning cotton. But with chain vaping on the tank I see that's still going to be an issue. I am still in the learning stage of working with nickel and temperature control. I built a what seemed to be a nice coil on a plume veil last night and it vaped great for a bit and now just seems like i am getting dry hits and no flavor with TP kicking in quickly. That may be wicking, I might not have enough inside the coil itself. I do have short ends on it as I have read that's the way to go.

Just got the Subtank mini and I usually vape max VG and no matter how I wicked the rba got dry hits if I didn't primer pull it first. So I decided to take out my dremel and use a very small bit and I grinded out a very small amount in the juice channels... Made a huge difference and I can vape max VG no problem with the mini rba base... Just thought I'd throw that out there... Might help with some of the dry hit problems... I didn't have time to skim the threads so not sure if that's out there already...

I have trouble with 80/20 in my mini no matter what coil I am using. Better luck sub-ohming on a higher heat. I would bump down to 70/30 vg/pg or lower. Also a great trick is shorter pulls and setting the airflow a little tighter. This creates a little more suction in the coil head causing faster wicking. Just my experience.

I'm not too worried about clouds to be honest. A year ago when I started vaping clouds weren't even on the horizon. While it is fun to do and impressive the most important thing here is to be able to get a comfortable satisfying vape that will keep me from falling back on smoking.

You have a cloud chasing setup and with that come issues. Not a professional cloud chasing setup, which could compete in sanctioned events, but an amateur cloud chasing setup nonetheless...
