First of all, sorry for skiping the introduction but I'm at a loss here.

I started vaping a little over 2 months ago, first with a ....ty disposable one without nic.
Then I ordered a chinese ego ce4 with 650mah battery. Unfortunately it died on me after 2 weeks (very poor battery)

I then decided to spend a little more on a good vape, and chose the Kanger T3S.

It's 1.8 Ohm, Joyetech V2 battery (900 mah) and I got a set of new coils since I lost my rubber cap on one and it started leaking.

I use e-liquids from Kroatia, buying them on a Dutch site.

At first it was heaven, and it was so much better than the chinese one. I got watermelon 6mg nic, and banana. I disliked banana so I washed my vape with hot water, cleaned the coil and finished with some isopropyl alcohol to get rid of the smell. I did this a few times before already. I dried it off and dry burnt the coil a while. I then put it back together and filled it with +- 3ml of watermelon.

But the first drag I took, I noticed it tasted burnt...quite horrible to say the least. I was worried I did something wrong or didn't dry it properly and cleaned it again, carefully dried it and dry burnt it again. Afterwards I read you're supposed to dry burn and then clean it again, which I failed to understand:(

The same day I got a 10 pack of Chinese ego ce-4's I ordered 3 weeks ago. I tried one of them with watermelon and they taste awful, not burnt but very plastic-like.

So I'm wondering if my atty can be saved, I still have some coils left, but I ruined the last of my juice so I will have to wait 1 or 2 days to get my new strawberry juice.

Additional info: the past few days I dropped my battery twice...from about 30-50 cm. Wasn't that hard at all but it might have screwed with the voltage.

When I tasted the dry hit, I couldn't taste watermelon anymore. Neither on my ego ce-4.
This happened with my first juice-banana as well, with my first ego ce-4. (no dry hits)
Quite odd tbh, because I wasn't vaping watermelon this time when it happened, I had used 3ml of banana and I could taste watermelon until the last puff and same with banana. But when I switched back-no taste but burnt, awful taste.

Tell me if you need any additional info, and thanks in advance!

Dry burning is a fine art. Too little and you do nothing and too much you can ruin your coil.

If you burned the rubber gromet on the bottom (where the pin is that connects to your battery post), the taste will never go away.

I don't know if the Joytech battery is variable voltage but if it is not, that isn't the issue.

I +1 the bad coils, sometimes; they are just bad.

I don't think you mentioned the vg/pg % but if it is high vg, you could have wicking issues.

First of all, thanks for the quick responses!
The Joyetech V2 is not variable.
The juice is 80/20 PG/VG in that order.
I indeed think I overdid the dryburning, I did it as a tut told me to do so until the wick was fully red.
I have more coils, and will try washing the atty and using a brand new coil asap.
I was scared that I might ruin more coils/juice this way. Is the juice ruined, just throw it out?

And the battery, is it unlikely to be broken?

I'm not very rich (student) so I can't afford to keep buying stuff, I'd take some recommendations on new atty's though. The Kanger T3S doesn't leak on me and vapes really well, that's a plus. But I'm always experimenting:p

I need something relatively cheap (this atty was <5 euros) bottom coil, no leaking at all and cool vapor-I hate hot. I'm also looking into new juices...all the ones I used have artificial flavouring (esters) and I get immune to the quickly, no taste anymore. Is there an alternative in the Netherlands? Can't find a lot like the USA has.

Thanks again guys:)

First off, never use isopropyl alcohol. It leaves behind some not so nice stuff. Use some cheap vodka or Everclear. When you dry burn, just pulse the coil in short bursts. It's good to blow on it when it starts glowing to blow away the gunk as it burns. Don't overdo it, just enough to where the coil and wick are nice and clean. Add some new 1 mm silica flavor wick. Once you have reaseembled and installed and filled with juice, be sure and take several dry hits to pull the juice in before you fire it for the first time. Do this every time, be it with a refurbished coil or a new one.

The T3S clearo is a nice one, I have a couple that I use on occasion. Kind of hard to clean out, but not terrible. Your juice should be fine, Very little gets back out from the coil into the tank, if any at all. As far as losing the flavor, try this. It sounds kind of wierd, but it usually works. Get a bit of coffee grounds or coffee beans, put them in a pill bottle or something similar and when you lose your flavor, open up the bottle and give it a few good sniffs. This resets your sense of smell. Some call it Vapors Tongue but it's really Vapors Nose. I keep a bottle on my desk and hit it several times a day. Works every time, at least for me!!

Thanks for both your replies! I used isopropyl because a tutorial recommended it, it cleans out the smell (especially had problems with menthol-never again) I was under the impression it vanished and didn't really leave a trace? It's used so broadly..

And yes I'm happy with the T3S, especially that it doesn't leak and carries 3 ml of juice.

I also noticed it was a nose issue, my smell through nose decreased but I could still taste food etc. I tried lemon juice and such but that didn't help at all. Will try your method in a fwe minutes:)

But you did get me wondering, If the coil is ruined..what is ruined about it? The coil can't burn and the silicone looks fine!

Thanks for your information pal.

I can't say if it's ruined or not, that's up to you to determine. From what you have stated, it seems to me that you weren't getting the coil primed before you fired it for the first time. That can taste nasty. How are you drawing on it? You need to take long slow pulls on it to keep it wicking properly. Too fast and hard and you get burnt hits, again, kinda nasty. I went thru some of the same things at first too. I was puffing on it like I was a steam locomotive and couldn't figure out why it was so nasty. And yes, getting rid of menthol or mint flavors can be tough. I went thru that with some stuff from Halo called Kringles Curse. That stuff migrated into every tank I had. I tried giving the bottle away and the guy gave it back to me, wanted to know why I Cursed him. I have it isolated now, over in the corner by itself. I'm afraid to dump it, it could get into the water system and pollute the whole state!!!

Okay that made me lol:D

First of all, what is priming? Haven't heard that term before.
Do you advise dry burning the new coil? I don't want to risk screwing that one up at the start.
I've had no real problems with this atty before, it has been doing great. I just hope I can keep the thing itself, I'm going to try it tomorrow. Vaping this Chinese ego atm..lol.
I'm drawing like you should on a vape, and haven't had any issues with that before.
I'd say let the vape flow into my mouth and slowly suck it in for about 3 seconds.

And I just tried your coffee advice. I can smell a little better but I still can't taste the watermelon like I used to. The thing is, my brother who doesn't really vape but sometimes takes a few drags from mine also says it tastes very faint. But it's a little over a week old

I'm guessing I'll be able to taste the strawberry again, and the same thing will happen...I'm going to find an alternative to esters!

Priming is just taking a few dry pulls before firing your device as previously mentioned. Dry burning is not necessary on a new coil. Hope it all works out!!

Another possibility is you just don't like the 1.8 ohm coils. They can simply be running too hot for your personal preference and those particular liquids. Try the 2.2 or 2.4 ohm coils.

Although this is true and I'm taking a higher Ohm next time- it is not at all part of the problem. It was fine until I washed and dry burnt it. I also changed the coil and the smoke is less, but it still irritates my nose and mouth. I'm getting my new juice tomorrow and I'm hoping a clean and fresh juice will fix it. I'm just not sure if I should clean and dry burn the new coil because I put it in the old (burnt) juice.

I had a dry hit this morning on a 2-day T3S.

I took it apart and the coil and wick was blackened in the most appalling way.

I cleaned, threw away the flavour wicks, dry-burned and re-assembled with 3 new 1mm strands on top. Seems to be fine.

The question I am asking myself is "how did it get that bad?" not had that before.....

Update: I got my new juice yesterday and cleaned out my atty. I washed it and let it dry (no dry burning) and put in the strawberry juice. It's giving me no more dry hits so I'm glad my battery and atty are fine! But I think I should order some extra silica because they die faster than a coil itself. Also looking to import some virgin flavour juice, heard it's way better taste. I'm on a Dutch forum, they're trying to get a group buy going:)
