I've used both clearomizers and cartotanks for 1.5 years. I prefer the flavor production of cartotanks over clearomizers, although there is something to be said for the easy factor of clearos over cartotanks. Both have their place, and preference of one or the other is personal preference. I enjoy both, but if given a choice, prefer cartotanks.
I've written a series of blog articles meant to help new vapors get a nice start based upon my experiences. Take a little time to read through these to gain some information along the order that you are seeking:
Proper Terminology: Is it a carto, a tank, or what? A primer on Juice Attachments Descriptions of the more common juice attachments, along with pictures and videos on their use.
Cartotank Help for a Noob A dialogue between someone about to order their first tank and myself, and typical questions asked/answered.
IBTanked pyrex tank review Not only a review of these tanks, but I go into how to choose the right size cartotank for your application.
Baditude's Cartotank Setup Tutorial A detailed guide on how I set up my cartotanks successfully, and additional information about punched cartomizers, dual vs single coil cartos, and a nifty tank accessory tool that I highly recommend.
Something Safe for Cinnamon and Citrus Flavors You should be aware that some flavors can literally destroy tanks and clearomizers that are made of polycarbonate plastic. I include a link to a list of those flavors, and options to use those flavors safely.
Pros vs Cons?
Cartotanks have a slight learning curve, and take a little more time to initially set up, but their benefit of extra flavor production makes them worth it. They are not hard to learn to set up properly as long as a proven method is used. Most issues with cartotank use with beginners are either user error related or using a poor quality tank to start out with.
Clearomizers are easy to fill and changing replacement heads are easy, but they are sometimes fussy and may give muted flavor.
