I have been using Kanger type tanks, I have a Pro-tank II, Davide Mini, and a Hyper tank. I have been reading lately about carto type tanks, I really like the looks of Phiniacs. During the day I don't vape much but in the evenings when I watch TV or read I tend to chain vape. Would a carto tank be ok for that or should I stick to the tanks I have? What are the pro's and cons? Thanks.

I can't get over the taste of polyfill, so haven't bought any carto tanks. There are some great looking ones, but using a carto is a huge drawback, for me. Before investing in a carto tank, buy some cartos and use them. If you don't like the taste or process of filling them, a carto tank probably isn't for you.

I've had Vivi's, Pro tanks...I generally use carto/tanks. Cons? Carto tanks tend to be a bit messier and some people have had leaking issues, flooding issues... I use Boge LR cartos in an AGR tank usually. AGR makes locking tanks that work great for me and they don't leak. If your carto is primed well, punched properly then it should keep up with you. Phiniac tanks are awesome tanks and they look great....I'm just a little rough when I grab stuff so the locking tank works good for me. Plus, they're cheap!

I've used both clearomizers and cartotanks for 1.5 years. I prefer the flavor production of cartotanks over clearomizers, although there is something to be said for the easy factor of clearos over cartotanks. Both have their place, and preference of one or the other is personal preference. I enjoy both, but if given a choice, prefer cartotanks.

I've written a series of blog articles meant to help new vapors get a nice start based upon my experiences. Take a little time to read through these to gain some information along the order that you are seeking:

Proper Terminology: Is it a carto, a tank, or what? A primer on Juice Attachments Descriptions of the more common juice attachments, along with pictures and videos on their use.

Cartotank Help for a Noob A dialogue between someone about to order their first tank and myself, and typical questions asked/answered.

IBTanked pyrex tank review Not only a review of these tanks, but I go into how to choose the right size cartotank for your application.

Baditude's Cartotank Setup Tutorial A detailed guide on how I set up my cartotanks successfully, and additional information about punched cartomizers, dual vs single coil cartos, and a nifty tank accessory tool that I highly recommend.

Something Safe for Cinnamon and Citrus Flavors You should be aware that some flavors can literally destroy tanks and clearomizers that are made of polycarbonate plastic. I include a link to a list of those flavors, and options to use those flavors safely.

Pros vs Cons?

Cartotanks have a slight learning curve, and take a little more time to initially set up, but their benefit of extra flavor production makes them worth it. They are not hard to learn to set up properly as long as a proven method is used. Most issues with cartotank use with beginners are either user error related or using a poor quality tank to start out with.

Clearomizers are easy to fill and changing replacement heads are easy, but they are sometimes fussy and may give muted flavor.

Thanks all for your replies. I had already been through all your Blogs Bad, plus Phil Busardo's and Grimm Greens videos. I already rebuild my own coils, have worked in electronics, so the learning curve does not bother me. I was not finding anything comparing the 2 and the pro's and con's. What I plan to get is a Phiniac (it's a girl thing, they are pretty) and Boge XL carto's. I think I might be better off slotting them (I have a dremel) than punching them, but I will give both a try. I will get a tank filler from Phiniac so that there is less wear and tear on the O rings. Any other thoughts I am happy to listen.

I'm new to vaping and own the ProTank 2. I went to a local vape shop recently and they had carto tank setups for sampling.

Needless to say, my next setup will be a carto tank or bottom feeder. The taste from the cartos were a lot crisper and flavorful. I like how the ProTank 2 draws, but the flavor production just doesn't stand up to those carto tanks I sampled.

Though I had to admit I'm using a juice brand they didn't have (puresmoke). Still though, the 3 different flavors I tried out of their carto tanks were all just full on flavor.

My only thoughts about slotting cartos with a dremel. This often leaves sharp metal edges on the carto which kind of defeats the purpose of using a tank accessory tool to protect the o-rings. Be sure to smooth those rough metal edges out somehow. Using a dremel can also leave metal shavings in the filler material.

After both punching my own cartos with a carto punch tool and using a dremel to slot, I only use laser-drilled cartos as a safer alternative. They wick just as well as DIY, and provide a level of consistancy from one carto to the next.

Good luck and enjoy. :)
