I haven't noticed an improvement in flavor, but the new vertical coils are much better to vape at higher wattages. With the horizontal coils, I start getting dry hits if I vape higher than 30 watts. With the vertical coils, I can bump it up to well over 40 watts. At the 50 watt maximum of the Subox mod, the vape starts to taste burnt.

Seems like the verticals are for clouds then from what im gathering here. Shes really picky with her flavor thats why she dont like the rba deck. Coils gunk alot faster and she wants a new cotton everyday. Im the builder in the house since its a finicky little thing for a learning builder she cant wick it to not dry hit. I get the "honey i need a new cotton" every morning lol. Im glad she loves the occ save me from rebuilding an extra deck.

Sounds like you're better off sticking with the horizontal coils then. The vertical coils would be a bear to rewick because you would need to disassemble the coil since the cotton is wrapped around the coil instead of threaded through it.
Do you recoil the .5 heads or just pull the cotton and replace. im intrested in doing this but its got nr r nr in there and im affraid if i put a standard kanthal coil in there im gonna melt the grommet at .5 ohms. She wont go higher ohm she likes the warm vape.

jrlakeman, I do rebuild the OCC in horizontal position as it's similar to my build for the ProTanks. The RBA deck I'm just beginning to figure out and need more practice with it. :)
The rba i battled with for months shes a finicky little beast im sure the new one with the occ style wicking is a breeze. I have the plus and that thing will not wick high vg to chain vape no matter how i wick it. I took a file to it and made 3mm juice channels and boy does it chuck the clouds. I can vape it non stop till the tank runs out and no flooding, cotton covering juice holes no problem it still wicks. Im happy as a pig in slop with it now.

Yep, got the new deck that came with the Subox mini kit, but do have one of the old mini ones with the juice channels. Am going to have hubby drill a couple of 5/64" holes on the side of the housing and see what happens. :)
I hear thats a very good fix for it that was gonna be my next thing since the new rba deck had them and comfirmed that juice channels are to small for my vape style. I was looking at the other sub ohm tanks out there and they all had wide open channels. I figure i give it a go and if it failed ill just get the new v2 but im so happy with it now ill just buy something else with the money.:)

I greatly prefer the new vertical OCC coils - especially the .5 ohm. They wick better and can handle more power; I feel this also improves the flavor, since I run my ST Minis between 28 - 38W depending on coil life. The .5 ohm horizontal coils couldn't handle >30W.

The only downside is that they can't be re-wicked. I only use pre-built heads in one of my tanks (white ST Mini that came w/ Subox kit) and use the RBA section for the rest, so it isn't that big of a deal for me considering how well they work. Just make sure they're fully primed and the coil is broken in gradually before cranking those OCC coils up in wattage!

For anyone that prefers the horizontal coils due to the ease of re-wicking: Stock up on them. Kanger is phasing them out since the verticals are better for their bottom line.

I think ill order a pack of verticals and see what she think. Shes not a high power vapor only 23ish watts so the horizontal wick fine for her. If she dont like them ill just use them when im lazy and dont feel like wicking. I vape the high end of everything so maybe ill like them since they can handle more power than the original. I despise the originals for the simple reason i cant get my hot vape im use too having ,just burns up past 28 watts for me. Thanks for the imput i got the answers i need i think now just got put in an order.
