Change your coil when your vape starts to taste bad or it becomes very had to draw. Dark colored, sweet tasting juice will "gunk up" coils faster than light colored juice.

1.5 ohm is the lowest you should go. 1.8 ohm will be a little cooler vape and you will need a longer draw but will be the best option for you if you cannot get the 1.5's. Cheers.
edit. This is if you are using the Emow battery. If the battery is a higher power device you might be able to go lower ohm's.

Forgive me, but I thought SOCC was just for the early tanks and an EMOW would use VOCC.

OCC and VOCC are completely different. Not even in the same general category of factory coil.
OCC = subtank... the 'old' subtank coils.
VOCC = EVOD Mega, Aerotanks, Mow tanks (EMOW), Genitanks, Protanks 3, EVOD Glass.
