With rebuilding, I saw a theory I never got around to trying, regarding the STM.
It was suggested that smaller diameter coils should be better in it, because the airflow hole in the deck is so small. That what happens is, with larger diameter coils, the air currents swirl around the top of the coil, and overheats and burns the juice there. I want to believe this is true because when the flavor was going south, and I'd go to re wick, all the burnt gunk was on the top of the coil. The bottom would be clean, and the sides not so bad, but the top would have heavy build up. So with a larger (3mm) coil, the aerodynamic's were poor. Just something to think about.

Mine started tasting burnt on the 60/40 Vg/Pg juices but does fine on the 50/50. Maybe add a couple of drops distilled water to your juice to thin it a little and let it sit longer between vapes. Can't chain vape with the higher VG juices, but you may have better luck with some good wicking on your RBA deck. New coils have to break in a little. Start around 6 watts and then work your wattage up until you find that sweet spot.

V2? not sure how to tell that
You will have the V2 it comes standard with the subox kit. Difference between V1 and V2 is the V2 has juice holes in the side of it and the V1 has juice channels at the bottom. V2 is easy to get the hang of you can wick quite chunky with it the holes make it very easy to wick even with high VG. V1 is a little tougher to work with you kind of have to get the wick just right, but once you know how it works just as good imo.

oh ok kool thanks for all the info. So go with 28g Kanthal for the coils. Any particular brand of cotton for the wicks? I know enough to get 100% organic but that is it.

With the V2 RBA deck, just as long as you fill or fully cover the juice holes you are fine. Reason I suggested 28awg is it is a good wire gauge to begin building with, pretty resilient while being maleable enough to manipulate well, and a little higher on the resistance scale, once you are comfortable with working and rebuilding coils, then you can get thicker, less resistance wire to drop your resistance down. 2 to 2.5mm generally works in my Subtanks (approx 1/4 inch), then I thread my wicking in after rolling and twisting it a bit, then thread through with a little twisting, the moment the tail end starts to tug on the coil, pull back about 0.5 mm, pull the tails up, place the barrel, then trim the tails about 1/4 inch above the barrel and tuck them in after wetting them with unflavored VG to prime and test fire the coil before screwing on the cap and assembling everything. I generally use just basic Walgreen "Green Labeling" Organic cotton, its cheap and readily available, and have used it since I've been rebuilding long before all these new latest and greatest wicking materials of late.

A good resource site to experiment on would be here -> Steam Engine | free vaping calculators

So I re-wicked my RBA and got the hot spots out of my coil. I also changed up the fluid after completely cleaning my tank. I am now using the Loop Ninja juice that is 70vg 30pg 6mg nic. I was kinda iffy on if I would like the fruit loop flavor but have found it to be a very pleasant juice to vape. By doing all this I have found that the burnt flavor has gone away and so has the spitting and popping. I am also able to vape the 0.5 ohm coil in the RBA up to around 30W without getting dry nasty hits. Although if I go above that wattage it starts getting dry and nasty. Tank you to everyone who has helped me figure this out albeit I think I just got lucky.

So I have one of these and have had it for almost two months now... I started out using the .5 occ coil and it was awesome but then started giving me burnt flavor hits. So I used the 1.5 occ coil that came with the kit and after only three hits it started tasting burnt. Well I started reading up on how to use the rebuildable deck that came with it but no matter what I do I am getting bad flavored kinda burnt hits.. What am I doing wrong and what can I do to fix this issue?? I am going to order some 26g coil wire and cotton soon to try and rebuild my stuff.. Any ideas or suggestions would be awesome thank you.
I'm having the same exact problems with mine, I'm not enjoying it at all which really troubles me since i did my homework on it and read the reviews and it's not living up to my expectations at all. I just started building my own coils on the rba I'm going to find the right setup to sit my needs.
