We are nearly neighbors jackinkc! Lived in OP, just moved out by Longview Lake. Right off 150 hwy. And yes, big huge DITTO on hating the snow removal in MO. Man it is HORRIBLE!!!

I did see a fellow vaper in Belton a few weeks ago though! Guy on a motorcycle at Home Depot. Enjoying his cig-look alike ecig while firing up his bike. :)

I was born in and grew up in Wichita. Elementary school was Sunnyside. Went to High School in Derby.
My Dad built stock cars and ran them at 81 Speedway.
I have relatives still in Wichita and I live in Indiana now...can I still play with you other Jayhawkers?

Once a Jayhawker, always a Jayhawker, or a wildcat, or a shocker :)

Hope to find many more. May need to create our own little subforum....who knows. Let's see how many we end up with.

Suzamme, my husband currently teaches over at Wichita West High School.

Jack and Nic, I have visited the Kansas City area a few times during my life. Growing up, I can remember mom and dad chasing a pizza truck that was supplying us with frozen pizzas for a church fundraiser. At the time we were in Leavenworth. My most recent visits had to do with my 2 children. Both boys and both had/have heart defects. Compared to many of the possible defects, they were mild, but still required surgical intervention over at Children's. Needless to say, I am not too anxious to return to the KC area.

When our oldest had his procedure, I can remember literally falling asleep behind the wheel when we were on our way home. Not a good thing. I finally yielded to my husband to let him drive the rest of the way home.

I think a subforum would be an awesome idea!!!!

On a side note-- I did my pediatrics clinical rotation at Childrens. Your kids were definitely in good hands. It is hands down the best place for cutting edge technology in pediatric medicine. I am hoping to work cardiac critical care when I graduate in May. I loved learing about pediatric cardiac care. So glad your kiddos are doing better-- sending you a hug from not only a fellow vaper but as a (almost) RN that loves to hear success stories about medical interventions that allow a precious child to live a normal life. :)

NIC, just remember that the heart and lungs are very much tied together. What affects one will inevitably affect the other. Example, both of my boys, after having a tangle with RSV, developed asthma. When they finally had the surgical interventions to correct the problems with their hearts....the asthma has been in remission. And asthma doesn't always present with wheezing....there is a cough variant that is very tough to catch and pick up on.

One last tip, before I totally destroy everything you know. Whatever you do....listen to the parents of these kids. They know their kids and how they act and react better than even the doctor. If necessary, be prepared to advocate for them and WHATEVER you do, PLEASE don't treat them like they are crazy when they say their child is not acting right. Chances are that they have spent enough time in hospitals and ERs to pick up some rudimentary basics...especially if they are good parents and have fought to educate themselves as to exactly what their child is going through. These parents may look crazy and one the panicky side of things, but they live under extraordinary stress.

Speaking of medical interventions, our oldest underwent a radiofrequency ablation and our youngest had a clamshell device put in to close an ASD. Talk about a scary procedure, that one they do not do unless they have an OR with a heart/lung machine primed and on standby.

OK, I will get off my soap box now, shut up and go back to my homework. :)
