Kanthal question

I am thinking about trying a micro coil build and my goal is to be around a 2.0 ohm.
For a 9-10 wrap mc what gauge kanthal should I use? 32 is my best guess

What are you trying to recoil? That's going to have a lot to do with what is recommended.

For 9-10 you'd probably work better with 30GA. A 4-5 wrap of 32 will usually end up around 1.8Ω.

I use nothing but 28GA for my micro coils because I always try to get around 1.3Ω. To get 2.0Ω I would have to wrap like 20x around a 3/32" bit. Doable but not my preferred size or resistance.

With 30GA I could see you doing 10-12 wraps on a 1/16th and getting right around 2Ω, easy. Hope that helps

I would say 9/10 wrap on 1/16 bit would yield about 1.8 to 1.9 ohms using 30 awg kanthal.

depends on how long the legs will be, but you are better off with 30.

Can you literally break it down by ohm p/foot and divide that by 12 to estimate how many ohm per inch? That way I could try and make my coil the desired ohm by measuring out the total wire used for my coil?

Kanthal is just a manufacture of NiChrome, you can usually save yourself some money going with a different manufacture.

There's at least one spreadsheet kicking around on ECF giving wire guage and coil lengths needed to reach the resistance level that you want, and there is also a calculator that does pretty much the same thing. I'll see if I can upload these docs here:

Not really. the 2 have different metal composition.

But hey you're pretty new here so I'm guessing you just got confused.
