How many diffrent gauges do you have and what do you use them for? Like on the PT heads or kayfun or rba's. What would really be the diffrence in using diffrent sizes? Right now I have 32 gauge and so far it has been fine. About 6-7 wrapes and i get about 2.2-2.5 a little higher than i want but been fine. I am thinking of getting some 28. What would be best?

I use 28 and 32 most of the time. I have 30 on hand too.

I use the 28ga in my RDAs. The 32ga was back when I used to re-wrap vivi nova heads.

The difference - on a 1/16 drill bit, 28 ga. 10 wraps gets me about 1.3 - 1.4 With 30ga that increases to about 1.8ohms and with 32ga. I get about 2.3ohms

For me, the best benefit of using the 28ga is I can go more wraps with a microcoil and not have too high of a resistance. I'm not interested in low ohm builds, 1.3 is seems to work out about perfect for me.

It's personal reference tbh. I like to be able to hit the button and vapor pours so when I do sub ohm I don't want the wire to be to fragile so I go 28g on mechanical mods but my vv Reo I use 30 Guage which gives me the effect I Want I tried 28g 1.8 coil on my vv reo and it heated way too slow for my liking

i know i wont be doing sub ohms. one i dont have a mech and two well i just have not figured all that out yet. I dont know it this is on the topic now but i have been seeing things about diffrent kinds of wraps. Can yall name some so i can google and youtube them. Right now all i know about is micro coils but i saw someone talking about a star and dragon.?.? are those real names and if so what other ones are out there. once i get some more things to rebuild i want to look into making diffrent coils just for fun to see how they work out. I need a point of reference though.

28 gauge = 5.27 ohms/foot. If you are not using micro coils, you may have some difficulty using enough wraps to get 1.2 ohms for a regulated mods. Your coil would need to be around 3+ inches.

30 gauge = 8.36 ohms/foot and 32 = 13.75 ohms/foot

There is a big difference in resistance between 32 gauge Kanthal and 28 gauge. If you want to try another gauge, you should try 30 gauge first.

30g kanthal 6/7 wrap microcoil on a 1/16th drill bit gets me about 1.5/1.6 Ohm for my KFL

I tend to use 30g 80% of the time but I keep 24, 28, 32, 34 and 36 on hand since you can get 100ft of all those for less then $30

hi all.
i just ordered some 32 gauge kanthal and 2 mm wick.
what size drill bit to use for the wrap would get me between 2.2 and 2.5 ohms?
this will be my first attempt at rebuilding and i'm just doing single coil for my ce4's
and ego c upgrades.

regards
mike

Try a 5/64 bit with 5/4 wraps. (5 looking from the top,4 looking from the bottom). I use a large needle but measured against the 5/64 bit, it's about the same size. Mine come out to 2.0 - 2.3. If that's too low for you, check out the sewing section in wally world and get a needle just slightly larger than the 5/64 bit. You could also try adding another wrap. That would probably get you closer to the 2.5.
