My one random diy for the weekend seems to have come out well. I was due to get a new pet barrier for my car, got one off Amazon. I modded the four "trombone" sections that extend to the sides, adding a little piece of PVC with a wing screw so it locks in place, can't be slid in from the car sides.
Great idea!

Ugh... g'mornin'... it was a loooooooong weekend, and it ain't over yet. We spent Saturday in the ER, and Sunday in an inpatient room. My Darling Bride was in immense pain over the weekend (pain has been getting worse for the past week or so). Pain meds are now being changed, and they haven't quite seemed to make her comfortable yet. Pain is coming from the increase in tumor size in the plural space of her right lung. ER doc said that tumors there are "exquisitely painful and difficult to manage". Apparently there isn't a whole lot that they can do about the pain in that area other than pain drugs... there are no procedures that would give her comfort. :( We're hoping that she'll be released today or tomorrow, but we'll just have to wait and see.
Oh Dear Kaezz! I wish there was something to help her. Even if just with the pain. On my knees for her!

Me either, Darlin'... really didn't like that I had to yell and scream at the people who are supposed to be helping her yesterday. I have no patience for their lack of compassion and laziness. All I asked for was for them to call the on-call pain management doctor to see if we could modify the medication orders... then the charge nurse started giving me attitude. I put her AND her boss in their place in short order. Now I'm here at work, just trying to get stuff started. I'll be leaving here shortly, because I don't feel like I can trust them enough to leave her there at the hospital by herself. :(

Love you too, Sweetness...
I fully understand what you are talking about. The ability of nurses to separate themselves from what a patient is experiencing allows them to think & respond clearly & calmly. But too often they stray across the line & fail to act at all. Or over react in the wrong way. Light a fire under them, Kaez

I've been a squonker for many years but a few months ago I branched out and got three Pico Squeezes...still squonkers but much smaller and lighter and "stealthier". A few days ago I ordered 4 more:D
I've switched almost fully to sqounking for the most part,i'd say 99% of the time, but i still find myself buying regular mods all the time haha.
When the Pico squeeze first came out,i had no desire at all to get it,i have the little Kanger Dripbox and don't much care for it,but now after getting 2 Pico's,i am tempted to get the squeeze too, just to round out the set haha.

I addition to Cathy's suggestions which, BTW, are what dog trainers say to do I would like to add this, also from my trainer friends: if after you tried everything you have a dog you cant break from pooping/...... in the house, try the leash trick. You tie the leash to your waist so the dog cant slink away to do his job and you are more likely to notice any change in its behavior that indicates wanting to go potty.
Jup. I don't think it will get to that. He's doing pretty well. I think if we can shut off his poop room, I can keep a better eye on him. Part of the problem is us. I can't physically jump up every time I don't see him, so I tend to call him, if he doesn't come by the time I do get up, damage is done. Cannot wait to get the nerves burned this Thursday! Really hoping that will help the pain a lot!

Herrrooooooooooo Erryone!

Happy "I-can't-believe-it's-Monday-where-did-my-weekend-go?"

If anyone sees nic on sale, please give me a shout. I have 1L in my cart at MFS, but I'm hoping they'll do a sale before too long. I think I want one more L in the freezer; maybe 2.

Haz a gud day erryone
If it's at all doable, get both at the same time, even if you have to save up a bit for it. Last I looked at MFS they had free shipping when an order was over 75.00 if that's still the case, the savings in shipping will likely pay for 1/2 of the 2nd liter. They used to have it on sale a lot but I haven't heard much about that in awhile. Still pretty far away, but I know in the past July 4th has been some of the best sales of the year if you can wait that long

I soooooooo hate to hear this!! Was completely expecting a good report. What more can they put her on for pain management, and her still be conscious? ((((((((((Kaezz and DB))))))))))

We got a rare second bird down the stove pipe this year. After a few minutes touring the great room (he liked perching on the ceiling fan [emoji5]), our unexpected guest decided to depart through one of the open windows. I topped off the bird feeders, since birdie will likely be hungry after a few boring hours in the stove, waiting for me to free him.

We were "this close" to getting my new car. DW found one new minor paint blemish, no biggie (there was a worse one that would be a "we owe" for the dealer to fix at a time convenient to us), I found the "whoops" item. There was a windshield wiper shaped scratch on the front window, like someone ran the wipers with no blade on the passenger side, so the arm was dragging on the glass.

I gave the sales manager an earful since both cars we were going to take (this was round two, first car they were talking about replacing a rear quarter panel and a door panel) had factory blemishes and things that clearly happened after delivery to the dealer (ice scraper scratches and the window scratch)

Net, I get to go back to the credit union tomorrow, have the second loan check cancelled (like the first [emoji5]).

The dealer is going to give us the next one coming off the factory line, presently being built, so it'll have our desired packages and not have dealer lot errors. They'll flag it at the factory, to make sure it gets a thorough inspection. Price should be knocked down again, it may well have a couple more bells and whistles comped. (It's pretty embarrassing for buyers to have to find factory QC errors, as well as obviously ham-fisted people messing up the cars post delivery.)

I've now been to the dealer 5 times, don't have a car in hand. I've been driving the same series for 18 years, bought 4 from the same shop, all service done there. It's a premium vehicle, known for build quality, so two vehicles each having multiple factory errors is something that shouldn't happen.

Hopefully in about three weeks I'll get a car [emoji3]

don't like all you've been through, and the waiting time.......but this sounds nice! Getting more for less is rare but always a good thing

Yes they're trying to correct it. I've been a good customer, I really do like the car. The things we've been catching are not up to their standards, they know it.
I will deal with someone like that in a heartbeat. I understand things happen, but if you admit it and work to make it right, I respect that

Absolutely. Brcause if they dont they will eventually burn out and not be able to give great care to their patients. But there is no excuse for copping an attitude with Kaez.

Jup very fine line between compassion which all med professionals should have, and necessary detachment to do your job well. Far too many are no longer able to do a good balance of the two

It's that time of year when I get calls from people who know I was a wild bird rehabilitator for many years and they want to know what to do about a baby bird they found. Please share this information. Here's the scoop:

Wild bird parents do a much better job at successfully rearing their young than humans. If the baby bird is naked or has pin feathers and cannot stand or move around freely, it should be returned to its nest. IT'S NOT TRUE THAT IF A HUMAN TOUCHES IT, ITS MOTHER WILL DESERT IT. Usually nestlings land on the ground right under their nests. If the bird is lying under a tree or shrub try to locate its nest, probably straight above in the tree or shrub. If the nest has fallen on the ground, secure it in the tree or shrub. If it is destroyed, make a new one out of a margarine tub lined with grass by poking a couple of holes on the bottom for rain drainage, tying three or four strings around the rim and securing it close to the original nest site.
Watch the nest closely for at least one half hour to see if the parents return. If the baby bird is well-feathered and hopping around, leave it alone; it is a fledgling. At that age, the young bird is supposed to hop around in the bushes or under them and exercise its wings. A parent is probably close by. If the youngster is in the street, herd it back to the nearest bush.

If for some reason the bird cannot be reunited with its parent(s) or is injured or bleeding call a wildlife rehabilitator. Please don't try to raise it yourself. Wild birds should not be raised alone and they require specific diets to insure good feather and bone development. Depending on their age they may need to be fed as often as every half hour from 7am to 9pm.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

Great information!!! Thanks for posting this. One time when I was a kid, I found a baby Robin that a dog was tossing up and catching as a play toy. I chased the dog off, got my dad. It wasn't fledgling yet, and at that time we believed if a human touched it the mother would reject it. We called the nature center. They said to feed it every hour. Some raw hamburger on the end of an eye dropper with some water in the eye dropper. We couldn't get it to them that day, I think they were closing or something. But dad did what they said, and took the Robin to them the next day. Have thought about that bird often over the years. Hope it did just fine. Dunno if dad never called, or if it didn't do well and he never told me.
