The last couple nights I have had a really bad time trying to sleep. I can't lay down in bed without having really bad, lots worse than normal, pain in my back. It all started a couple days ago when I leaned over in my chair and picked up my dog to put her on my lap. I finally put on my coffee and I think I will take a to go cup and go out to the workshop. I have a wood blank glued up and ready to turn. So sitting at my lathe and turning a pen sounds like a good idea. Pics to follow if it turns out OK.

Ughhh... yeah, the Navy screwed up my back very early in my career. I have found that the Icy Hot XL Back patches (menthol is the active ingredient) help quite a bit. Alternate those with a TENS unit and I can get things settled down pretty quickly. Of course, adding 800mg ibuprofen doesn't hurt either. ;) Hope you can find some comfort soon, Brother! Can wait to see what you 'turn' out... (sorry, couldn't resist the pun!)
 I'm kinda diggin' the Camo

;) Why do ya think I linked the camo one? :p:lol:

We have looked everywhere to no avail for a harness for Nala. Even the XS ones are 2 big for her. :( Since we have to use a leash for her right now to keep her from chasing the cats, a harness would be better than a collar. Maybe I'll just sit down with fabric to design and make one for her?

That sounds like a really good idea, SweetPea! I can't imagine that it would be very difficult for you. You have much more skill in that kind of thing that I do, for sure... and she's so little that you could just use velcro to close everything up. :)

I figure that if I can build a complete parachute and the container to hold it and a reserve chute, a little harness shouldn't be an issue. I think finding fabric will be the biggest obstacle.

I use Salon-pas, they contain a salicylate. I have three-- yes, sometimes I use all three-- cloth bags of mixed beans and rice that I nuke, for hotpacks. I am limited to tylenol and aspirin. I had a stomach bleed six months ago, and some precancerous tendencies in my colon, so I have to be careful.

Check online for a harness for a ferret? Those might be small enough.

I have a TENS unit that I was given after one of my many knee surgeries. It has been getting a workout the last couple days. I also have a couple rice packs, I keep one in the freezer and the other is for the microwave so I can rotate heat and ice. I am actually on Pain Management for my back. I have 4 herniated disc with 2 tears in my Lumbar so I have some of the good stuff.

@DingerCPA @Diver9543 sending positive energy your way.
@LynnNC glad to her Oreo is home.
Thank you!

Here is the latest pen in Zebra Wood, one of my favorite ones to work with. It didn't take long to finish today. I had already cut, glued and mounted the blanks on the mandrel a couple days ago. All I had to do today was turn, sand, polish, and assemble the pen today.

Hahahaha... See?!!? I knew that you'd be better at it than I ever would be. :p

I've used the Salon-pas ones, too. The only thing I really like about the Icy Hot ones is that they have them in the larger size... with the Salon-Pas, I just use two. ;)
As for the ibuprofen... I guess I'm just used to it. That was the Navy's cure-all. LOL...
Do be careful, though. Bleeding stomachs and precancerous tendencies of the colon are nothing to play around with!!

Yeah, those TENS units are great! I love that thing... good idea with the alternating hot/cold packs, too! And... :p I don't get any of the good stuff unless it gets bad enough for me to actually put myself through an ER visit. Then they'll usually give me a short term prescription for pain killers and muscle relaxers. Haven't had to do that in a while, though... I've been lucky (and careful to not strain my back any more than I have to).

Nice!! I'm definitely interested enough in Zebra Wood now that I'll likely try to find some way to incorporate it into a future project. ;)
