It's much simpler to tie off the coil legs under the screw heads which helps in getting the coil centered over the air hole.

I did my first coil using the side holes and didn't like it, but I also used silica for my wick.

I'm using cotton now. Very simple to remove the cotton wick and dry burn to clean. Install new cotton, wet thoroughly, put it back together, fill and vape.

The coil I had in my russian (almost identical deck) before I put the current double barrel coil in was a braided 3 strand 28 gauge. I used the side holes. Just had longer legs and bent them in almost a u shape. One side of the u's went into the holes the other continued into the coil. It worked well and was fairly easy to build.
