I'm an older guy and my eyes and dexterity aren't what they used to be and I'm finding it harder and harder to mount my coils around those 2 tiny little screws. I use a winder to wind the most perfect regular and micro coils only to wind up stretching them or bending them out of shape when I try wrapping the leads around those tiny screws. Anyone have a better way of doing this or a mod that you know of to turn those tiny screws into like a binding post type of configuration on my kayfun?

I sure understand about age and eyes. What I have found that helps with mounting the coil is to use something of the same diameter as the coil was wrapped around to support the coil when placing the wires around the screws.

I wrap my coils around a .075 metal rod. After removing from metal rod, I then torch the coil while holding it compressed together with a pair of needle nose pliers. This helps to set the shape of the coil. I then insert a round wooden tooth pick into the coil to support it while installing. The tooth pick makes the holding of the coil and placement much easier. After the screws are tighten I use the tooth pick to raise or lower the coil for correct placement. The wrapped windings of the coil are protected with this trick.

One thing I saw, but haven't tried yet.(to forgetful)
A younger builder showed - After wrapping and getting the coil heat/pinch set, he would use small needle nose pliers and make the loos on both sides. Simple enough to sit the coil in place(with rod inserted) and set the screws.

I always - wrap in direction of tightening and make a complete a loop as possible. Don't over tighten.

Also available - Ebay - M1.6 x3mm SS Hex Head screws - 50 for $8 shipped. Larger FLAT securing surface.

Have you considered a lighted magnifier lamp? I use one when I worked on circuit boards and carried it over to the vaping hobby. They are great and can be aligned easily. Enough mags for my old eyes....lol Hope this helped a little.....

Seeing is not as much of a problem (I do use a magnifier when nessessary) the biggest problem is dexterity and my fat old fingers with those small screws. That's why a binding post connector (Slip in hole tighten screw type) would be so much easier.

The problem with me is trying to wrap around those small screws. I do use forcepts and I think if I hold the coil side of the lead with them then wrap maybe I would have less chance of stretching out the coil. Must give that a try along with the tooth pic inside the coil.

Danny, I know exactly how you feel. I was trying to photo a build the other day to help new KF owners. Mangled my coil trying to get it around the screws and secure. Man was I ticked, but I worked my 2mm Syringe Needle back through and fixed the last 2 turns. Left it in and got everything secured...........Then I had to carefully Heat/pinch all over to get it closed tight again.

These really do help:

I just need to get them.

I can see them working for standard wraps I don't think they would work for micro coils. Great idea though. Think I'll dig through my screw and bolt draw see what I can find:)
