I have been doing some rebuilding and building and I'm noticing some pretty big differences.

First, let me say the people who put out rebuild videos have a whole new respect from me now that I'm doing it. They make it look easy and if I were to try to video my rebuilds, what you would witness would be klutzy and messy. Plus, everything looks much bigger on camera-those kayfun screws are TINY.

I finally got a decent rebuild on my new Kayfun Lite plus clone yesterday. It vapes better than anything else I have-great flavor. It took me at least 4 tries. One shorted, and with the other two, the ends came out of the screws every time I tried to lift the coil off of the metal so it wouldn't short. I finally got it on the 4th try. I tried to do it the way Rip does it on his videos first- angled coil and bending the ends back to the further leads instead of the logical closer leads. I don't know why he does it that way, but I'm sure there is a reason. I just couldn't get it to work. I finally had success with a simpler build-straight on, connected to the nearest leads.

My aerotank rebuilds have not been good. I found a video where a guy used a single oblong coil, twisted by using a 4mm wide plastic tie. At first, that build is awesome! But for some reason, the taste fades long before I've vaped half the tank. I might be using too much cotton. I've been wasting lots of juice trying to work it out and for now, my aerotank is in a drawer. Anyone have any suggestions for better aerotank rebuilds?

My protank rebuilds have been ok. I've been using the same two for weeks now without any noticeable drop of flavor. I'm even changing flavors with just a quick rinse. Again, it's harder than it looks. That little rubber stopper is a pain to get in without twisting up the coil. I have big hands and I'm not sure how long it will take for me to stop dropping things on the floor every few seconds.

So far, the kayfun has surpassed everything I have tried. I did 10 wraps with 28 gauge and very little cotton-less than I use on my protank rebuilds. I'm super impressed with the mechanics of it. I do wish they would make filling easier, but I have a feeling 4.5 ml is going to last at least 2 days. I also just took out the airflow screw because I don't like a tight draw and I could see well enough to know when I had unscrewed enough.

I have a bit of an advantage here. My pre-vaping hobby was watch repair. I come well equipped with micro screwdrivers, tweezers, tiny pliers, and 2 very important items....magnifying eyewear and a section of white carpet (for finding anything I drop or launch).

I strongly suggest the last 2 items for your tool chest.

After I got my kfuns my aerotanks found there way to the bottom of my vape box with the clearos. Saving them as a backup I case I wake up to find that gremlins stole my kfuns.
It's sad and I'm ashamed to say; it took me about an hour to get the first Kfun build right; and that was my first RBA; but after hours and hours i still can't rebuild a manger coil to save my life.

Excellent advice - hadn't thought about the carpet for the tiny pieces.

I got a 2X LED desktop magnifier and it's wayyyy easier that just my bi-focals.

Way to go Cooper! I just got my first kayfun clone this week. I've been building my kanger heads for about a month now (9-10 wraps of 30g on 1/16" drill bit), landing about 1.7-1.8Ω each. My kayfun was virtually an identical build. Had a little trouble with the ends and getting them clipped off closely enough (I got lucky - nailed it the first try! Thank you RipTripper!) Not sure if I'm using too much/not enough cotton, tho. I'm using quite a bit more cotton than for my kanger heads, but the wisp was less than 2" long. I just tucked it in like Rip showed and tried to make sure that flow channels weren't blocked. I'm noticing really good flavor, but not the amount of vapor I was expecting. But, it's very similar to the kanger heads, and I'm presuming it's because of the same coil resistance (not sub-ohming, nor do I plan to)

I'm quite amused. I am a heavy vaper (way more so than I ever smoked :D) and I don't think I got the tank completely filled the first time, but it was pretty much gone in one evening!

I'm toying with pulling the trigger on a couple more clones (this time with the airflow controllers, just for something different) Maybe if I get a different consistency from my next build.... whatever. It's all fun

Rebuild those dual coil heads with single coils and add a flavor wick on the top to take up the space of the deleted coil. Should vape great!! Always use a 1/16 drill bit to build on and keep it in the coil while installing into the head. Keeps it at just the right height and won't allow it to move as you work with getting the rubber grommet in. A bit of spit on the grommet will let it slip in easier too.

I'm noticing the same thing on my Kfun build. The flavor is awesome-in fact, my first few drags seemed quite overwhelming. The vapor production is just slightly more than the kanger head rebuilds I've done.

I have also noticed that everything I have rebuilt loses it's flavor. The first 1/4 tank is always awesome, flavorful, and vaporful (my word I guess). When I watch the rebuild videos, those guys are always so excited when they first get it done and that's how I feel. Then it gets just kind of....ehhhh, ok. Nothing special. Either I'm very used to the flavor or something wanes. I think it's the latter. I thought it was too much cotton, but my Kfun build has so little I was sure it would flood-it didn't.

Anyway, I'm constantly searching for that awesome vape. I get it, then it alludes me, and I'm searching again. I think the search for the perfect vape is more addictive than the nicotine in my juice.

any of u guys have experience with the patriot rda yet? im waiting on funds to get that and an e-lvt to play with. being an aircraft mechanic im looking to explore the idea of 28-24 gauge wire wrapped in a longer micro coil format so that it will light up more juice at once, probably going to try for a 1.3-1.4 ohm modification of rip trippers sleeper coil build. thoughts?

Indeed rebuilding a protank improves it considerably, but it will never be as good as a kayfun.
The same thing can be said moving from RBA to RDA.
No build on my kayfun is as good as a simple build on my atomic, not by a long shot.

Are you using this one?: $9.06 Atomic Style Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer - stainless steel at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

I'm not sure where to look for RDA devices. I order from fasttech because I'm in Asia-much easier for me.

I got one last week as my first driller and loves it!!
I had it sealed with 28g at 1.4 on my pro-thingie while I was looking for a mech. Now it's in the mech and still 28g but wrapped at 0.5.
They are great! I'm not that into dripping; I only got it to check my my DIY juice instead of using a tank system. I'll admit though when im not on the go it is a very nice vape!

I have found that rebuilding the Kanger heads really prepared me for the Kayfun builds. The precision required got me into the right mindset, and prepared me to accept the loss of a few 4-6" lengths of Kanthal. I've also found that the Kanger heads are far less forgiving with regards to wicking; using cotton, you have to have JUST the right amount.

what is a driller? im assuming you've modified it with additional air holes?
what do you mean by " sealed with 28g at 1.4 " i know that was a 1.4 ohm build apparently but what is a sealed build?

this is good to hear, im looking to have the rda(s) for at home only, good to hear someone happy about that arangement.
