So, why isn't this brought up more in the clone discussions? Or is brass (chromed or not) becoming less common in the knockoffs?
Please don't fall for the latest scare-urban myth about lead poisoning from chrome, chromed brass or anything else. It is basically a bunch of over-inflated nonsense. Sorry to seem rude and authoritarian, but this nonsense has been making the rounds for the last few weeks on vaping forums and as often as we debunk it, it raises its stupid little head again. It's tiresome, and needs to be put to bed permanently.
For seasoned vapers out there - think about what protanks and clearos are made of...
Your Kayfuns etc., will be fine. I have three and with the exception of a little Taifun GS, I do not use anything else of my tons of stuff anymore.![]()
Except for you can't scratch the protanks surface to reveal the brass. I've tried even with a screw it won't scratch.
On those brass posts a fingernail can reveal the brass. They're using lowgrade brass that's why its so cheap. Well if you want to use it, go ahead i won't argue about it. Personally i don't wanna risk it. There is some brass types that are considered safe however they're not the cheap brass. Also there's a reason why Brass waterpipes are now banned. Because it made the water contain to much lead.
And since this brass material is so "weak" soft, imagine what will happen when you heat up the coils to over 150c and juice lying on it. The chrome plating will come of for sure. It's not made to withstand that.
Again it's up to you, i just wanted to raise a fair warning for those who actually cares. Go do a research about brass and lead.
Edit: you didnt watch the video did you?
Brass contains lead, especially cheap brass.
And since this part gets heated up & juice on it you'll have a risk of vaping e juice containing lead

They take up it abit here, take a look:
Since this video among others were posted, FT started to say "Chrome plated brass post" Or "brass post"
I honestly don't know. It's quite a new "problem" and not many people know this.
And some are ignorant and say "pff the cigarettes i smoked are way dangerous, so abit of lead doesn't worry me"
I'd care alot for the lead. I vape to stay healthier so vaping lead is not on my list. ^^
There's a reason why these brass clones are so cheap (looking at the 15$kayfun) also just go into that 15$ clone and read the comments of it ^^ They're not happy with it, and FT is quite stupid that they're keeping to supply brass attys. People don't want to buy that. Well they should have abit of kudos, as they've now recently started to state that they're made of brass. They didn't do that before. It was when these youtube videos got out they changed it. So it's kind of shady...

hmmm you posted wikipedias lead poisoning... but did you look up brass on it too? Brass is made of copper and zinc.... no lead involved
FACT .. brass must reach a boiling point, and melt in order for it to pose any risk of lead contamination from amount of lead contained within the brass.
It depends on how acidic the water in the pipes is (I think eliquids aren't acidic)
I am not sure of this fact. Can you explain this further?
Why, for example, do brass plumbing fixtures pose a risk for lead exposure?
They are not subject to these high temperatures.
I've worked with metals on and off all my life, I spent my young teenage years working in my uncle's scrapyard cutting up brass, copper, kryptonite, doesnotexistium etc etc and I don't have any signs or features of metal fume fatigue nor lead poisoning, a British scrap yards bread and butter is brass, copper and lead and I have handled all in all weathers, cut up with torches, no masks in them days...
PS @trentenmarschel : you have an adorable little pooch there. I'm sure she'll be good as gold post-op. Don't fret.![]()
