Kayfun Lite Plus being harsh

Hi guys,

I'm using a KF lite+ on an MVP2 and for some reason the vapor is being much harsher than on my PT mini3. Now, by harshness I mean, it just makes my throat hurt a bit, I know it's not dry hits, the wick is wicking properly. I have no idea what to do here, I'm enjoying my PT mini3 MUCH more! It's giving me a much smoother and denser vape.

Now in terms of the build I have did a microcoil 30gauge, 2.1ohm. It lights up beautifully, although it takes longer than on the PT mini3 since it's a 2.5ohm and I'm guessing 32gauge? Since it's the default wire that comes with Kanger heads.

Should I try instead of a micro coil a coil with the turns not touching or something? What could be going on here? I also read somewhere that the KFlite+ should have a tiny little ball inside the airhole to regulate hissing and whatnot but I looked for there and I see absolutely nothing, not sure if this is relevant in any way but thought about saying it.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

If your throat is burning, it could be a wicking issue. A dry hit on a Kayfun for me tasted a lot different than a dry hit on anything else. It still had vapor and flavor, but the back of my throat felt like I poured acid down it.

Try covering the air flow hole and then sucking and letting go. This should draw more juice up into the wicks and get rid of the problem. If it seems fine for awhile then goes back to harsh, then you know you have a wicking issue and probably need to adjust or rewick the unit.

If you're getting a burnt, harsh taste:
Wash out the KFL with soap and warm water and try again. Try priming your wick with juice before you close everything off so that it's already saturated before you start vaping. Make sure the wick is right over the juice canals so they can soak up as much juice as possible.

If you're getting a strong, sharp hit:
Like shynsly said, the KFL is much more efficient at vaporizing e-liquid than most clearomizers. Better coils and better wicking material = more juice being vaporized at once. So with better efficiency means a much harder hit if you run nicotine. I used to only run 6mg and I would get nic sick after a couple of hits and I always go into a coughing fit if I take a hit into my lungs. Go to your local shop and ask to try a 0mg flavor and see if it's still as harsh as your current juices.

It's not a dry hit, I've had dry hits when I run out of juice in the tank on the KF and it's nothing like that! It doesn't scorch the back of my throat it just feels harsh. I'm vaping Gorilla Juice right now for example, 6mg, I taste zero banana, it just feels harsh and I remember vaping boba's on my old protank mini2 and it was awesome! I'm gonna fill up my pt mini3 with gorilla juice to compare the both.

Btw, I ALWAYS use cotton even on the protank mini

is your coil positioned high enough above the center air hole/post. If your coli is to low it will impede air flow around the coil. I would take it down and take a look at your wick and coil. With cotton I like to cut my wics about 3/16th of an inch longer than the body of the Kayfun (I use russian 91% but damn near the same thing). Then I push the cotton up thure the bottom piece of the lower chimney as I screw it on then with a toothpick or something poke the wicks down each side. you can over wick leaving you with so much wick material in the chimney that it provides poor air flow.

I have not found many juices that tasted bad in my russians except for the time when I put a Extreme menthol flavor and gave it a toke and it felt like a jammed dry ice up my nose. I run 70 to 100% Vg is your juice a high PG blend that now your atomizing more efficiently its giving you a strong throat hit? One more thing I have found in my adventures with Kayfun style devices is thath it better not to fill them all they way up but to give yourself a bit of space in your tank to build up that vacuum to pull the juice in to the juice channels and up to your wicks. Keep at it once you get your set up rocking you will never want to vape on anything else well apart from maybe a nice sub ohm build on a dripper and a mech mod.

Best of luck and I hope some of my rambling helped a bit

Ok, just tried the gorilla juice on the PT mini and yeah, I don't know if this is a crappy batch, I'm getting zero banana this is 100% boba's bounty period. Although, the vapor that comes out of the mini is much smoother than on the kayfun. I seriously don't get it... like I said I'm sure it's not burnt hits, I've had those before when the juice ran out, it's just making the juice harsher than it should and I'm vaping the build I said at 9w, but whatever watts seems to make zero difference :(

Hi, thanks for the reply.

It's gorilla juice, so 100% VG. I know about all this, I've been using the KF since last Friday and done numerous builds on it. I pretty much follow Pbusardo's way of wicking it, etc. I'm sure there's not loads of wick in there, it's touching the channels but it's not massively thick cotton, the coil is quite risen up as well, so that's not it... It's not machine oil, I experienced that on my first vape on it. Had to clean it 3x and boil all the pieces bar o-rings and plastic bits.

Try less cotton. That worked for me.

True that. Too much cotton and it don't work, too little and it burns. Plus, there is a small break in period. I have rotate 4 kayfuns and when they are hitting right there's not a lot that's better.

Hope you get it sorted....

Thanks a lot for the replies guys!

I believe I have fixed it, I had too much wick before and raised the coil a bit more. It's now firing like a beauty creating that V shape vapor as you can see in the photos I took!

I still think that AVE is partially to blame because I'm hating it for some reason even on the protank

100% agree! When mine gives harsh hits, I do the same, cover the air hole and give it a good pull and release the air hole. Problem solved for me.
