Kayfun question

So I am considering venturing into the world of rebuildables.

# I hear kayfun is a good one. Are there any others you would recommend? I am not into sub-ohming or anything cutting edge. I mostly use 2.xohm resistance at 9 watts. Easy build will be nice

#2 Is this the real kayfun or a clone?

$14.39 Kayfun Lite Styled Rebuildable Atomizer (4.5mL) - clear tank section at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

#3 Why would anyone want a clone?

#4 Both of my batteries (VTR and VV3) show ohm reading. I understand that sub-ohming can be risky, if not done right. Other than that, what other risks do I need to be aware of?

Thanks!

I've got a bunch of those. they often need fiddling to get to work but they do work fine with a little work. A couple have been crappy and I threw them into the parts bin and that came in handy later. I think I put a 1x9mm o-ring in the middle of the chimney in all of them. They haven't been coming with one but work better with one.

I would also get an atomizer to play with.

That's definitely a clone. You won't find a real Kayfun for less than about $100 (maybe more), and you won't find one on Fast Tech.

Some clones work great, but many are iffy. People want them because originals are very spendy. I can get 3 EHPro clones for the cost of a single authentic Svoemesto Kayfun and they perform just as well.

I'd stick with an EHPro Kayfun Lite +v2 or an Hcigar Kayfun 3.1. Both have very good track records. I have 4 of each and have never had a problem with any of them. Each has an advantage over the other. The Hcigar has better airflow and is what I think is a smoother vape. The EHPro has a much smaller profile and is really nice for on-the-go. The EHPro also comes with a full length M-Tank which is a nice addition.

You can get them for around $32-$40 on eBay. Use a seller with a high feedback rating and you'll be fine.

I've bought from this vendor multiple times. He is very responsive with communication (if you need it) and ships quickly.

There is a sweet spot for the Kayfun as far as resistance is concerned, and though it will vary for some, it seems that most like it between the 1.2Ω-1.8Ω range.

You don't need to worry about anything if you stay above 1Ω, especially with a Kayfun. They are great atomizers, very easy to build, and are world beaters as far as value is concerned. The taste is outstanding and the vapor is very good (though one shouldn't consider it a fog machine by any stretch of the imagination.

Watch this video. It's a very easy method to building the Kayfun. It's simple and very effective. There is very little need to stray far from this method.

Hope this helped.

blueGrassTubb - Thanks a lot!

How often do you have to rebuild these coils?

An authentic will require very little fiddling. Neither will an Hcigar or EHPro. The only fiddling I do is when I experiment with new coils and when I change wicks.

Once you get the hang of it, you can go at least a month between coils. Some last for several months. You might have to change the wick anywhere from every couple of days to a week. It's a juice to juice thing. Darker and sweeter juices will require a change more often than lighter or thinner juices. Changing the wick takes perhaps 5 minutes.

It will likely take 4 or 5 builds to get the hang of it. It's not hard, but there are a few things you learn in those first few builds that make building easier and quicker, and they are better coils.

What's a good indicator that it's time to change the wick? I am assuming you mean organic cotton wicks?

Yes. Organic cotton.

There are a couple of indicators:

1) if it starts tasting "funky." Funky is up to you, but it generally means the wick is all gunked up.
2) if it starts giving you dry hits after a couple of days of working fine. It means the wick is gunked such that it can't adequately wick liquid to the coil anymore.

With some liquids your wick can last a couple of weeks or more. With others it might only last a couple of tanks.

You mentioned sweet and thick juices.

What typically falls into the sweet category? The dessert inspired juices or is it sucralose or other sweeteners that make stuff sweet? I am into tobacco flavored stuff (coumarin pipe, 555 etc).

Also, what determines thickness? The amount of VG? I generally do a 50/50..pg/vg.

The dessert types and tobacco types are thought to clog coils faster. I have some cappacino and NET (Naturally Extracted Tobacco) juices that will clog a coil a day..

May I recommend that you purchase an ohm tester when first starting out on your builds. Easy to build on and no risk of damaging your unit just in case you happen to make a mistake.

With that being said, The Kayfun is a great unit as long as you take the time to learn it well and build it correctly.

I always shoot for around 1.2 ohms (wick or cotton) on a regulated unit and when done right it is an excellent vape.

The particular Clone you linked is Rock solid.
I now have 4 of that model and not one has been an issue.
I recommend complete dis-assembly and Cleaning on any RBA to remove any contaminants and machining debris.

Why a Clone? In this instance I would say because they are excellent representations of the $$$ original and until you are sure you will like the setup, $15 beats the heck out of $90+ shipping:D

I picked up one of these - EHPro Kayfun V2 w/Nano kit for $41 shipped... $29 shipped if you dont want the nano kit

Ehpro Kayfun Lite Plus V2 | eBay

I'd get it with the nano kit, but that's because I like smaller at ties for on the go.

You made a good choice. Get yourself an Ω meter and watch that video a couple of times before you start your build. It helps to have the routine mentally understood before you do it.

I'd say desserts and tobaccos are wick cloggers. Dark liquor flavors are too.
