I've tried silica, ekowool, cotton yarn... only to find that organic cotton is by far the best. I'm using the organic cotton from Walgreens with no problems, no boiling, and no bad taste. I did boil one of the cotton balls to see if I could tell any difference, and I could... it didn't taste nearly as good after boiling.

New to rebuildables but I'm guessing you need to purchase an ohm meter with it to check your coil builds correct?

If you're using a mechanical, or ego-type, yes... if you have an APV that has it built-in, no need, you can check it on that.

Ah gotcha! So since I'm using a Vamo V5 which reads the ohms. I can just make a coil and check it. Hmm may have to order a kayfun now

Yeah it's very convenient... I have a couple of iTaste vv3s, and I usually use those for testing ohms, since you don't have to actually press the fire button to check the ohms. But having the ability right there in my Sigelei is handy, it lets me keep making sure that the resistance isn't fluctuating -- I'm no kind of expert at any of this, so a little reassurance is always nice. :D

But I think I'm about to order a "real" meter, the Omnitester.. MadVapes has it for a great price, best I've seen. That would be helpful with the one eGo I've got, to know when I *really* need to charge it, instead of just guessing; I'm probably going to be getting a red SmokTech ARO Winder soon, to match my ARO Pyrex, and it doesn't have the little screen either, so I could check its voltage too. And I could probably use the Omnitester as a sort of platform for when I'm building coils, too. Seems like a good idea, IMO, since I'm all up in this coil building thing now. :D

EDIT: MadVapes no longer has the Omnitester for an excellent price, for some stupid reason their price is now much the same as everyone else's. Now the best price on it is at litecigsusa.net - $17.95.

If you like tinkering with stuff it's a blast, a guy on these forums recommended a kayfun to me a while back, I took his advice bought a kayfun 3.1 clone (little big, I'd go with a kayfun lite+ if i buy another one) and enjoyed it but liked messing with it enough that now all my atomizers are rebuildables/rebuildable drippers, which also got me into more advanced mods and mechanical mods... I've been meaning to send him an invoice for 1/2 of it since it's his fault I bought all this stuff
But now I'll even tear perfectly fine coils out of an atty just to build a different type of coil to try out.
Oh and check riptrippers youtube channel for some help with coil builds. link to the section of the channel about coil build how-to's

I had an MVP2 and the reading was about the same as the ohm reader I ended up getting (not a fancy one for now though), I will however say it's a bit easier for me anyway to build the coil with it on the ohm reader than it was to build it with the atty on my mvp, just more stable. They are only about $20, and for me that's worth it but when you're just testing the waters just stick with using your mod as the ohm reader.

I'm guessing you couldn't post links yet, jcol. WELCOME TO ECF! :)

If you're talking about a Web site, this is my current favorite: Coil wrapping | Steam Engine | free vaping calculators

And there are smart phone apps as well, though I can't name one off the top of my head.

I use a Russian 91% @ 1.1 ohms with cotton wick , I run 12 to 16 watts and get really good flavor nice clouds and full lung hits. BUT, whatever you like best is the best for you.

this is what I have in my Russian right now it howls and spits flavor and vapor at me fast and furious it's quite amazing actually :)

This is the build I currently use for my KFL+ I've tried dual coils and regular single coils but this one works best for me. It's twisted 32 gauge 6wraps around a 3/32 drill bit and I wicked it with organic cotton. It usually comes out between 1ohm and 1.2 ohms

Hi on my kayfun I use organic cotton. Same with my taifun. Really brings out the flavor nicely. You can expirment with different wicking materials to see which you personally like the best. I've tried ekowool, s.s. mesh, silica, sterile cotton, but the very best flavor in my humble opinion is from unbleached organic cotton. Mine almost looks like a tan yarn. It gives a super clean flavor, really nice. Give it a try and see what you think. I run it in my taifun as well. Both give excellent flavor.
