So it's aight....I mean it doesn't have bad flavor but some of these video reviews are all like "the best I've ever tasted!!!' C'mon man

I honestly get better flavor from a dual coil RDTA or some other tanks with dual coil. However I'm transitioning back to early vape days of MTL and lower wattage. I must add I usually squonk almost exclusively. I wish I still had my kayfun 1 and 2 from 4 years ago to compare it to but I digress. Tried a clapton, a twisted and a standard 28 kanthal spaced and it's nothing to write home about....

Your thoughts?

I run a 30x2/36 SS fused Clapton @ 0.5 ohms in mine and get killer flavor. It's a nice change from my other gear.

The coil has to be close to the air hole. If you place it too high it will mute the flavor. It also helps to use a spaced coil build but that is not required. The position of your coil relative to the air hole is probably what is causing your problem. You also are best to stick with .5 ohm or higher in your build. Mine is at .8 ss 26 guage 2.5mm and a flavor monster.

Running a 26ga Ti 8-wrap on 2.38mm bit slightly spaced yielding .33-.34 ohm attached to a VF Stout set on Ti mode & 380* F and the v5 is breathing Awesome Flavor and equally great Vapor mass. Loaded it with 65/30 VG/PG and set the Juice Control at @ 1.5 turns open. Zero Leaks and Zero Dry-Hits.
As stated above (as I originally was advised by Vape Master Sensei Qorax - Thanks much yet again Q ), Coil spacing above Air Tube is critical. Q advises 1-1.5mm above. Running mine at @ 1.2mm (Feeler Gauged) as directed. Also as Qorax aptly stated, this IS a Flavor-Atty. Don't Power-Hit it...
Q and most do advise over a 0.5R build and even best at 0.75-1.2R. Of course, I prefer sub 0.5 and so far the v5 is kickin the chicken swimmingly at the 0.3-0.4 range.

I didn't believe in all the Kayfun "hype" for almost 5 years before I finally decided to see for myself... I'm quite pleased I did and even more pleased with the Kayfun v5. So much so I have a 2nd one coming.

It's not the Kayfun v5 I, and others have and will assure you.
It's in the way it's being built, set, mated to a Mod, and subsequently utilized.
Personally, I prefer to run ANY "Flavor-Atty" in TC built with Ti. But, your mileage and results may vary.
Don't give up on it or yourself :thumb:

Suggest you take in a viewing of Qorax's Review and Tutorial on the v5. That should help a lot and most likely go a long way to rectify your issues and displeasure.

Well I dont know how how to gauge 1.5mm but my coils are always low, pretty even with the deck. Tried spaced, clapton, twisted from .5 to 1.2

I'm just used to dripping so it's most likely RTA only people that are freaking out about this flavor. I have a merlin on the way so I'll try that. But this kayfun has nothing on a velocity goon or narda. It's actually some of the most muted flavor I've had in a tank. My combo RDTA blows it away in a single coil config.

For the Record,,, I only VW/TC RTA when out & about. In the House and chair-side it's almost always Mechs and RDAs.
And,,, still the K5 "flips my switch" and tickles the Vape Fancy as much as my Mech/RDA Rigs do. Huh, guess that makes me a Schizo-Vaper

As I said before,,, your Opinion, Mileage, and Results may (and obviously do) vary and that's cool. However that's merely a testament to the Individually Subjective nature of things.
Not, by any means or reasonability, proof positive of any inferiority or "Flavor-Fraud" on the part of the K5.
I took this Thread as you were sincerely asking for assistance to rectify as opposed to just venting your frustrations and negative opinion of the K5's performance.
But hey,,, it's your Soap-Box & to Each their own.
Get ya Rant on my Vape Brother ;)

FYI: the Point/Nib (on the flat side) of one Leg of the average set of ceramic Tweezers is right at or a hair under 1.5mm. If it will barely sneak in under the Coil-Good to Go.

Nah I'm looking for suggestions. However theres only so much you can do. Being experienced I can throw a different build in there within 5 minutes especially on that deck. No idea.

Some of the video reviews were saying the best my juice has ever tasted! ever! I trust the kayfun brand/design but I haven't tried one in years. Perhaps my tastes have changed but I'm getting next to 0 satisfaction with it and I stepped my nic up to 6. Flavor just tastes very muted and dull. I think I'll try another clapton so I can push the watts higher and try again.

Put another clapton in there at .5 and some 70/30 and its kickin pretty good flavor. The juice has extra flavor shot though, I cant help but think thats the key here. I could taste this juice in anything. Tried 3 different juices before all 80/20 and flavor was muted and the hits were somewhat harsh.

Now I just went back to 6mg for this tank and single coil drippers. I am transitioning back to lower watts and flavor vs clouds all single coil builds. I can drip most of the 6 just fine surprisingly, hardly any more TH than the 3. On the kayfun though the nic tastes harsh and somewhat peppery in certain juices. So this may boil down to coil placement on the kayfun airhole. Perhaps I actually had too low? The closer the coil to the airflow the more flavor (supposedly) but also more TH correct?

Have to check out the Qorax Vid for that answer on height vs. hit type. He says but I don't remember.
I usually vape 80/20 12mg but this last Batch I got was 65/35 12mg. Could be a combo of the Mix, along with dialing in the right Juice Control turns/opening (I'm using 1.5 turns for the 65/35 and plan 2 full turns for 80/20) and corresponding Coil height to produce the hit & vapor that suits you.
It's gonna take some trial & error for you to find your "Sweet" Build. Especially factoring in you are used to being a diehard Dripper. It's quite the "shock" to your Senses and Palate as well.

Wish I could help more but since I do all my RTA's in TC Mods built with Ti (some 430 & 317 SS every now and then), hard for me to get more detailed on VV/VW and Kanthal.

I'm still playing with my new Tobeco K5. Last night I coiled it up and wicked it and everything was fine. A few minutes later ... dry hits. I went back to a KF2. This morning I read and found out how the juice flow adjustment worked. I still didn't get what I considered to be even KF2/KF3 flavor.

I broke it down tonight to clean it again to get rid of the residual oil taste that remained after the first cleaning. Apparently, when I got dry hits last night the KGD wick burned almost in two!

It's in the ultrasonic cleaner now with some more Palmolive. In the AM I'll rinse it off, lube the o-rings, and wick it back up. Now that I understand the juice flow control everything should be cool.

Yepperz, toasted Wick = No Bueno :nah:
Like I said, I'm strictly a TC-Guy in my RTA's (except couple TopTanks w/SSOCC 0.5 premades for Bedside and Grounds Farm Chores then it's VW Power mode at @ 23-25W) so no worries there. It's single wire, Ti-built 26 ga, 8/7 wrap, yielding .33-.35 for me in the K5's. Set at @ 400* (Mod usually sets self around the 20W range to maintain that) to break-in a new Coil for about half a Tank. Then to 460*-480* from then on (Mods rarely move upward of 20-21W for that temp) and sweet flavorful Vapor in more than sufficient mass.
Never a Dry-Hit and zero leakage. I wick the K5 per Sensei Qorax's Tutorial Vid and Viola! It's been nothing but All Good and deeply satisfying for us here at Ft. Vape.
Again, don't Power-Hit a Kayfun v5. Nice, easy, prolonged draw letting the Rig and the Coil do all the work. Hoovering it outruns its production limitations.

Silly Vapers,,,, Claptons are for Drippers & Mechs :D

The Kayfun 5 isn't like the previous kayfuns. Even with the reducer it is no where near a MTL flavor RTA. All those YT videos; atleast most of them give laudatory reviews even if the RTA is average just so they can continue to be sent free stuff to "review".

If your after flavor there are many RTA's recently released that are way better than the over hyped kayfun 5.

I'm also new to the kayfun world & I'm very happy with my kf5. So happy that I ordered another. Of course flavor on an RDA with alien fraples or fused claptons are gonna be a step above. But I'm getting better flavor of my K5 than any of my RTA/RDTA. Dual coil tanks have been a huge disappointment for me, flavor wise. Have a serpent mini on the way & I'm hoping to get flavor comparable to the K5 with bigger coils

I drip when I'm at home but my K5 suits my needs when I'm out & about, along with my Mage RTA & RDA of the day. Gotta carry around all 3 lol

I run SS 28x2/40 fused claptons .5 ohms at 28 watts on my k5. Fantastic flavor TC or VW. Check out Trevor Jones k5 vid on YouTube, that's where I learned from.

Agree there are "better" flavor RTAs out there (had a Tengu for awhile that was Un-Friggin-Believably flavorful and vapor-mass-errific when and Only When it was wicked just absolutely perfectly "right" and the Juice Control was matched to that wicking and Juice just absolutely perfectly "right". Otherise, a dry-hits and/or leaks party waiting to happen. Finicky to fill without flooding half the time. Basically the trouble and lack of consistency wasn't worth the hassle putting up with for the moments of Flavor Nirvana.
Sure we all have those stories about truly awesome Tanks we have had pure Love/Hate relationships with over our Vape Journey.

That being said and inarguably true,,,, the sheer Simplicity of build and usage the K5 offers and gives combined with the much better than average (much much much more than "blah") makes it a true and proven Winner. Hands-down & Thumbs-up.

The Erl Konigin is another awesome Flavor RTA not too difficult to Coil correctly, Wicking isn't finicky or difficult once you realize and get what it wants, and filling isn't an issue which will yield some amazing Flavor. However, it likes to be babied on the draw and the hitting. Plus, it just won't produce a big vapor mass. Love mine to death and won't part with it ever.

The GEM & GEM II is another Flavor-Beast but it has a quite small Seated-Coil Design Deck (19mm Atty) which renders it somewhat difficult & finicky (isn't Emetal coated or have a Wide Deck Option like the Squape) to build and damn near impossible to use anything other than 28ga or less wire. Also, the Design can lend itself to seepage and be finicky and a tad unforgiving in filling unless used to it and have had experience with like Tanks before. But again, it is a Flavor-Chucker. Didn't have issues with it (other than the limited choice of Coil options and wire) once learned it. Then,,, eye surgery, issues magnified and increased, had to put it up for adoption.

I/We can go on and on and on.

As said above, after trying many-many different RTAs and loving something to almost everything about the majority of those (except the Russian 3.0 that is), still looking for the "Ultimate" King-Shizzle.
A Unit that is, or equal to, the best in ALL facets.
I've yet to find it.
Probably never will be made.
Until then, all we can do is keep raising the Bar of compromise with better all-around Devices while never surrendering or abandoning the Quest for the Holy Grail of RBA/RTAs.

Although definitely not Best of Show, the K5 is worthy of the Sash for Miss Congeniality when all things and categories are honestly and impartially considered. IMO anyways.
For now ;)

I had muted flavor at first also plus burnt wicks after just 4 days of use. I only use Rayon for wick and a simple 28 gauge spaced coil of 1 .2 ohm with the tank opened 2 1/4 turns. I decided to try a simple 28 twisted build thin my tails a little more and drop my wattage down 2 watts and open the tank 3 1/4 turns, fantastic flavor now with no leaks.
