Could be the juice your using as some gunk up quicker than others.
Could have the watts to high for your build and juice.
Some talk that spaced coils are less quick to gunk up than contact coils.
Could have a hot leg or uneven glowing coils , check the coils are glowing evenly from the inside out.
If not then pulse them , let go of the fire button and gently brush/rake along the coils with the end of a flat screw driver.
This breaks up an oxidation layer on the wraps that builds up and makes them glow more evenly.
Though the build has to be uniform.

You still using the same build from this thread?

I guess your dude at the vape shop forgot to tell you that running a .14 Ohm build would burn the crap out of your wick if you let it dry out too much huh?

You're running it too hot. You're not keeping the wick saturated enough while you're using it... And... You need to brush your coils off every couple of days, especially with darker juices or NET juices. Replace your wick every couple of days for the freshest flavor. The coils, especially with heavier AWG wire like what you're using can last a good long while, but if they get too nasty, just rewrap some new coils... Maybe this time at a bit more reasonable resistance that's better suited for your battery.

Good luck!

I can't seem to figure out how to keep my coils clean. After I use my mod for a couple hours the coils get dark and dirty and then the cotton seems to give me a burned taste and my juice doesn't taste as good. Can anyone make any suggestions?

Since you are in Chicago you might want to pop over to Vape Bash today. Go to the VapeTV table and someone there will help you with building and showing you how to maintain your coils and wicks.

This ^^ is great advice and would IMO be the best thing if you can do it. There's nothing like having a mentor in real life.

If you can't get there, tell us more about your setup. What device, wire gauge and resistance are you using (I'm assuming it's a mech mod). Also, is your juice dark and sweet and what flavor is it?

If you really are burning the cotton while vaping it, I would stop vaping it until you figure out why it's happening and fix it. It's unhealthy and there's no good reason it should be happening :thumb:

running dual coils with 24g at 0.22 ohms. ive tried many different builds and they all do the same thing. It's not running too hot. Even at 0.40 ohms it happens. After a few hits, the cotton needs swapped out or I have to clean the coils and replace cotton. It's just frustrating bc it takes too much time to mess with. thanks for the positive feedback to those who gave it.

1. try building single coil, less fuss, higher resistance. Most RDAs allow you close off one side to work in single coil mode. You can tinker faster only doing half the build.
2. make sure cotton (or other wicking material) is not too tight in the coils or it constricts wicking, and not too loose.
3. make sure air holes line up to coil(s), you need clean air flow path across coil(s), or you just burn juice instead of vaporizing it.
4. try a different juice. Some darker ones really gunk coils after a few ml, but not after a few hits.
