Just wanted to tell those interested in this portable battery charger to keep their eyes open up on the Ebay. I just scored one new in package for $29.99 with free shipping. Almost bought one at best buy last week for their full $59.99. Glad I waited. Looking forward to the postman dropping it off, as well as my passthru, and other 510 goodies from Ruyan that are in the mail.

You defiantly want a portable power pack that has a rating of 1 amp. I've seen some as high as 1.5 amps...1.5 would be best.

I've only been able to find on ebay, a power pack that is as small as an ipod and puts out 5v 1 amp for less than 20 bucks but only 1000mAh, but that's nearly 7 times more than an unmodded ecig. Really great for usb passthru's that aren't voltage restricted.

Here's the one that is 1.5amps at 5v or you can adjust it to 6v 1.2 amps or even 8v...not recommended, and 4 times more mAh than any kensington. Only problem is you would have to acquire a usb female adaptor...that's like a dollar or two. Unless one of those adaptor heads are already one...can't tell, images won't get larger.

and the one that I have from ebay.

I own 2 of the Kensingtons and think they're great.

I wasted a lot of time (and money) before finding one that works.
There are other battery packs I've seen posted here and some members have said there are packs that work for as cheap as $5. I believe they were just battery holders with a USB connector though.

If you're wondering about the Kensington I can tell you it works on a passthrough with or without an inline battery.

Shop around for the best deal and good luck to you!

In a sense, all these packs are a waste of money. Because the conversion to 5v from the battery's 3.7v.

Sure some have a beefy circuit, are reasonably efficient and can supply sufficient current; but at best the performance will only be slightly better. For most models, the performance will be worse, perhaps considerably worse.

Better to simply make a pack with a good quality, high capacity battery and a usb charging board. Certainly cheaper. I guess many are simply attracted by the stylish looking case ;)

For example, this Kensington

Portable Power Pack for Mobile Devices - K38021US - Kensington

is $60 will probably supply sufficient power for an atty but the capacity is only 1800 mAh (not sure if that's the battery or output; if the battery (sounds like it is) then in practice the actual output capacity will be less because of inefficiency of the voltage converter.

I dunno. Running at higher voltage with sufficient current seems to be a dramatic difference in performance.

My 6v 1.6a puts out some intense heat milliseconds after pressing the button, vapor....well, vapor is slightly better...but I can't and won't confirm since I fear of running the atty longer than a second or two hold.

The current mod at 4.2 peak and 3.7 with 1.5a does produce good heat and vapor, but no where near as intense as the 6volt one.

But, I don't like the way 6volts make my liquid taste after 2-3 drags. And I don't like running through that much liquid.

The 5v 1amp battery pack seems to be a happy medium for me. I love how much vape and heat is produced with that. There is definitely a big difference running at 5v 1amp versus 3.7v 1.5 amps. May not be in terms of vapor, but the heat is generated quite rapidly and consistent from the very first time.

ps- Who here is getting tired of pressing F5?

That's the one I use day in and day out, at home and in the car. I got it for around $40 and love it. With a standard USB powered BE112 passthrough it lasts for about a day and a half, with the 4.8v mod I use at home it lasts a little less than a full day. The voltage seems stable right up to the time it shuts down and recharge is required. Output on the label says 1.5a @ 5V, the chemistry is listed as "lithium-ion polymer".

Wow, I never knew they went up to 1.5amps! I've only seen the .5 and 1 amp.

I think what he's getting at is that you may get great performance through it's conversion.

But it would probably be better if you were able to bypass the circuitry and run direct off the battery and it's true mA(if there is any lost?). Since he thinks there really isn't a big difference in performance of the atty at 5.v 1.5a or 3.7v 1.5a.....I think that's what he's saying.

Therefore, you could use the 40 you spent on that, and spend it on making your own 3.7v battery at a far lesser cost.....

Yes, I would admit that stable output is a plus for these over using the battery directly, but as dedmon mentioned, a 1.5A output or greater is required to see this (or perhaps any) benefit.

He thinks that was more or less the point ;)

The website is in slouch mode at the moment btw, so you may need to be pressing F5 to see changes in posts ...
