I have used less and more cotton have no wicking issues either way. Most of the time I take a piece of cotton and roll it tight and twist it into my coil...as long as the wick just touches the shelf no issues

Ya, a little more cotton then most would say is "acceptable" lol, but imo its so subjective. Seems everyone builds different and some stuff that works for some, doesn't work for others. I have my air file screw out, im going to try to tighten it a bit and see if that helps with MY occasional dry hits.

And +1 on Darkest Hour =) Love em, love em, love em.

That is my favorite album by them too.

Yeah this is the first time it's happened since I got it. It might be the juice. I got some 65/35 coming in and it can't get here fast enough.

Something I just found out that has helped me immensely with both my KFL+ and my R91 is tightening up the air flow. For a long time, I was vaping them both wide open (and got nice big billows, which is what I was after :)) but I was getting the dry hits described by the OP. Tightening the draw about halfway cured the dry hits, and while vapor fell off a little, it wasn't much and I got a boost in flavor to make up for it. Until I listened to one of Todd's reviews where he explained how vacuum tanks (like the KFL+ and the R91) actually work, I didn't realize that when you tighten the draw, you are pulling more liquid into the chamber, thus eliminating dry hits. OTOH, if you're getting gurgling and flooding, loosen the draw and it goes away. Air flow control is a lot more important than I ever knew ...
