So I received my ehpro KFL+ today. First time I've ever made a coil. And I made it with te kanthal (pretty sure it's kanthal) they sent in the box. And I used the silica or Ecowool.. Or whatever they sent in the box. (Anyone know?) and I made a 1.7 ohm coil that fires evenly throughout the coil from the middle out. No hot spots. Nothing. Primed the wick up with juice and made the classic z shape on the deck where the juice channels end... Tasted awful. After awhile I reworked it, gave the wick more juice, took primer pulls and it taste MUCH better but has a slight metallic taste to it now. I'm out of kanthal til Monday. Any suggestions?? Please help!

Did you wash out whole unit? it will have oil and crap from manufacturing that might give that taste. Also the wick and wire they give is probably very cheap which might give a bad taste.
Try washing it out with some dishwashing soap and give it a good rinse. Wash everything including the deck.
Hope that Helps!!! :toast:

Definitely clean it. When ever i get a new atty I get a little bit of isopropyl alcohol in a small container and a few Q tips and give everything a once over. Some have been fine others, Wow disgusting and it will definitely affect the taste. The other thing is that whatever that "silica" is that comes with it is, I don't know but I went to torch it, like I do everything and it turned black immediately. Makes me think it isn't true silica. I wouldn't use it....

A lot of the Kayfun style chones have metal shavings and machining oils in the bottom 510 positive screw and air intake chamber when you receive them. The only way to clean this out is to remove the screw and clean the hollow center of this screw and the air intake chamber out while this screw is removed. Just washing it, without removing the screw and cleaning, will not get rid of the shavings and oils.
