I recently got a KGO which initially I loved. I filled up a boge carto and thought FINALLY I have found the perfect set up. But after I use it for a couple hours with a Boge 1.5 ohm carto I start to get a sore throat. Today I tried a 2.8ohm clearo for six hours and no sore throat. I went back to the 1.5 ohm carto and within 30 minutes my throat was sore again. I'm not loving the clearo because it tastes slightly muted, ruins the look of my KGO and guzzles juice.

I was using an Echo (auto 650mah) which is also nice but It never really satisfied me so I bought an IPro VV because I thought maybe higher voltage is what I needed. I've use the Ipro with various cartos and tanks and it has never given me a sore throat. I don't know the exact voltage I use but on most juices I have it set at mid-way (4-4.5v?). I got the KGO because I wanted a smaller device option and because it has slightly higher voltage than an Echo.

I currently use 24mg juice which has never been too strong for me. Sometimes I even use 36mg juice. Nothing has ever bothered my throat until now.

Does anyone know why this is happening? I am wondering if I need different ohm cartos or lower nic juice? I love the size and look of this model and really want to make it work for me.

The lower ohm carto is resulting in a higher wattage, 9.1 or 11.76 watts depending on who's kGo voltage claims are correct. The 2.8 is resulting in high 4 watts or low 6 watts, again depending on kGo's actual voltage.

The higher wattage is creating higher temperatures. The higher temperatures give a stronger throat hit.
There are people on here that claim to vape 12-15- and I've even heard 17watts, but contrary to political correctness we aren't all 'the same'. I like between 6-8.5 watts. Less doesn't satisfy, more gives me a sore throat.
I suspect that sore throat is actually burnt throat, but I only have personal experience to base that on, I'm not a doctor or a scientist.
Ever had a sun burned that just 'healed' that you got back in the sun? Burns pretty quickly because it's still tender and not healed internally. Sounds like your throat???

I've never had a problem with filler allergies or sore throat. I was always slightly disappointed and wanted stronger flavor so this has been surprising to me. I found a stash of kanger 2.6ohm liberty flights (?) 3.0 ohm. Much less th. Didn't care much for the taste in the kanger and the 3ohm had to little th! Ya, I know some people are just impossible to please -hahaha!

I'm thinking my next move will be getting some smoketech 2.5ohm or something like that somewhere in the middle.

You didn't mention the juice you are using. If I vape something like DK-TAB or one of the cowboy mixes (Wyatt Earp is one), I get throat irritation and coughing. A Boge 2.0 Carto on 3.4v eGo or 3.7v Riva is just right with my Awesome Vapor Camel juice.

You might want to try some juices with a higher VG mix, say 70/30 or 60/40 to find the right level of taste and vapor. We all have to search for the sweet spot.

Here's a power chart that lets you cross the resistance in ohms with voltage to find wattage. It may help you by identifying where you are at in wattage and where you need to be. Wattage is synonymous with heat, like in light bulbs. The higher, the hotter. I like 6-8 watts. Anything higher is too warm. 1.5 ohms is twice the wattage of a 3.0 ohm atty.

Click the chart for a larger image once you get to the link.

Thanks for the great chart Dave!

After much experimenting I think I have figured this out and it's a combination of many of the things you have all mentioned. I am sensitive to pg and can't vape higher than 70 for long or I will get a headache or stomachache.

The sore throat was from vaping tobacco based juices with 60-80pg in combination with higher voltage and lr cartos. Many people love and recommend the combination of high volt with lr equipment. I do love the stronger flavor and th I"m getting from that combo but it is just too harsh on my throat. Switching to standard resistance feels much smoother on my throat but you lose some of the flavor and th. I crave the stronger flavor and th but unfortunately that combination of equipment isn't working for me.

I guess my options are std cartos or try lower nic or lower pg levels. I've read that the KGO starts at 4.2v and the Riva starts at 3.7v and that is why I chose the KGO. Possibly the Riva with lr would have been a better choice for me.

I didn't have the problem with my sweet juices because they tasted better on my lower volt devices so I had immediately stopped using them on the high volt/lr combo.

There really might be something to do with PG, when I started several years ago with Joye 510 I was coughing constantly until switching to just pure VG and no throat problems since, Maybe some people are just sensitive to it and others not. And regular cigs never made me cough like that before. Besides now with VG i'm getting a much better vape and the throat hit is just fine at 24 mg.

Just my two cents.
