My brother has a multitude of 18500 batteries and has just acquired a Reo Grand on my recommendation - I suggested that he use his existing batteries with a Kick2 and he promptly ordered one.
It arrived today and I installed it for testing - he was OK with the removal of the powder coating on the side wall method to install the Kick and that is what I did - with for the time being some off-cuts of an eraser to hold the kick firmly in place. I have to admit it works like a charm and I'm considering them myself for mine and the missus' Reo's...
I did notice some very peculiar things however.......And I would like other Kick2/Reo owners to correlate what I found if possible..
first issue I noticed is that it seems impossible to get a voltage reading with an inline volt meter from the kick2 in the Reo - I wanted to set a wattage for the kick using the coil resistance and the volt reading - but I had to just wing it in the end..
I connected my voltage meter on a few mods - on a vamo - as you would expect - the voltage meter just flashed at high frequency and gave no reading; confirming the 33 Hz chip in operation.
Same thing with an SVD and interestingly an Evic gives a reading confirming it's output is a flat signal as opposed to a frequency signal.
But put the meter on to the kicked Reo and although the atty fires the meter gives no reading at all - no led's nothing - anyone confirm this?
The other thing was that all day I have heard an annoying high frequency clicking noise - at first I thought it might be interference from the PC speakers. I have ridiculously sensitive hearing in certain frequencies.
But late this evening as it was quieter - the clicking was much more pronounced and I could locate it and was surprised to discover it was my brothers Reo with the kick making the noise.
A bit of investigation showed me that the Kick2 was making a high frequency clicking noise. - I've attached a recording of it - sounds like an old cine projector..
I need confirmation of whether this is normal behavior for a Kick2? - Should it indeed make this noise? - Are my ears just too sensitive - and if it is making this noise is it safe to leave the battery in the kicked mod overnight or does the kick need replacing??
