I side loaded playstore onto my Fire tablet, would those files work for you?
Possibly, I was able to sideload chrome... does it have an up to date apk?

And watch the fireworks? I am ashamed that I voted for the jack ... and Ginny won't even tell any body but Hillary carried this state inspite of our votes. We have no movies to watch have watched everything made in 2016 and whats available in 2017 and I'm not supposed to use xanax a lot even though I have about 400 of them. We got sucked in bigtime. Have been giving Kodi a break so we can go back and find something new to watch. I'm kinda enjoying the documentaries on the City in Arizona + yawn.

Look at some of the newish stuff on Netflix, it's great start with strangers tings if you havent as a kid of the 80s I loved that show. When I get a chance I'm also gonna check out some of the movies like the one with iPhone in his head and that one called the discovery. My cousin said they were good.

I believe it does. It's from the XDA forum, they do things proper.
Easy to do and has been working for me a few months now.
How to Install Google Play on Fire Tablets the Super Easy Way, No PC or Root (Video) | The eBook Reader Blog

Glad I'm able to give and not just take from these threads :)
Nice, I'm not sure if I need it yet, but if I need any other apps I'll def sideload that.

Hey @mikepetro I need to get that box for my dad, is the one you were talking about out yet?

Word, ill pick one of those places one I get home.

I find it odd that that pretty much all these boxes have the same stuff where it matters media-wise, even the cheap ones... mali whatever gpu and ~3gb of memories(besides shield box/fire box). Is it firmware support or what that make these better than cheaper ones with the same gpu/memory. Just curious, I don't mind spending extra for that bc it is important for future android updates but I know my dad and stepmom never going to have a need for 8 cpu cores just looking at kodi.

I'm only curious bc I did have issues before with the gpu's on the 1st gen fire TV's we replaced w/ the shields... it was especially noticeable when the camera pans and it's kind of stuttery/not smooth etc. That has a lot to do with the gpu being limited to a lower frame rate (under 30). That's the same issue they're having on the fire stick except worse, but he's used to the shield box now which is buttery smooth.

@2legsshrt, here's one for you it's called the girl with all the gifts, if you like zombie stuff I just watched it while I was in flight.

TBH, on the Chinese el-cheapos, dont expect a lot of firmware upgrades etc. They do happen, but not often. The T95Z did have a couple of bugs, and they did do a FW upgrade to fix it, but I had to search the forums to find it.

Most of the el-cheapos are 2gb ram and 16gb storage, I have one thats 3gb/32gb and I highly recommend the extra memory.

If support is important then you pay more for that, get something US backed. I have 3 of the Chinese ones, and in my head I just figured them as disposable when I bought them. However all three are still running well. If one dies, I will just chunk it and buy another. I recommend the disposable ones for folks that are tech savvy, which I gather from your posts that you are.

If you setting it up for pops-in-law, then I would strip the pre-loaded Kodi, and the waaaaay too many factory installed addons. Reinstall kodi, and just the addons he will actually use. That will save the constant auto-updates of useless addons that occurs with factory loaded kodi. Nothing worse than turning on your box and waiting through 5 minutes worth of auto-updates before you can do anything.

Weird, they put addons on? What do they have installed on there? I have a build I use for all my kodi's and hell probably use that.

Came default with about 100 addons (seriously), including most of the ones we cant talk about here. Really was a PITA waiting for them all to auto-update. I finally just stripped it and started with fresh build of my own.

That was one of the main reasons I went and got the SHIELD.
my SHIELD PRO has 455 GB internal storage, 4K HDR, 3 GB RAM. It can act as a PLEX server, and you can attach a full-fledged external hard drive as well. That means that you can put whatever music/video you want onto the hard drive, and listen or watch on your tablet anywhere. It has native HDHomeRun integration as well.
For those who have an older TV, or a TV without it, it also comes with Google Cast.

Now that I've got it working the way I want, I'm thinking of offering my older one to a friend just down the street.

Tbh the shield isn't so good for a plex server unless you set it to always on, I thought about doing that so i could put my steam box/htpc in the office for my gf to use.

But I like to have mine switching the TV & box off/on when it's not being used, or is. That's part of the convenience that I like vs my htpc which I have to screw around with audio settings or possibly restart every time I switch sources. it is ideal as a media server bc it can stay always on, but having a gaming rig just being used as a media server seems like overkill, I do have it set up as a steam box but I hardly use it for that since we have other gaming rigs with an actual keyboard/mouse connected to it. I may go a different route later on and just build a simple Windows Media server, already have a motherboard/processor and a old maxwell gpu that I saved from the garbage my gf when I upgraded my desktop rig.

I have a Home Server running all my home automation stuff, it is always on. So I installed the Plex server on it, along with a couple TB of storage. Then I just added Plex clients to all the Android TV boxes.
That's what I do, I use the plex/emby thing with kodi though instead. It was supposed to be a steam box I built it from old parts it's just got a m.2 drive for boot and everything else is on external.

And all of this, along with my Harmony remote, is all addressable through Alexa. Virtually my whole house and entertainment system is voice controlled. LOL, found that voice is NOT very good for just channel surfing though.

I just say "Alexa, watch Kodi", and the stereo comes on, selects the proper input, the TV turns on selects proper input, and the Kodi Box turns on.
