It's possible that doctors will be the ones to change public opinion on these things (many already are giving opinions different from the political line). This makes sense as good doctors deal with people as more than statistics and they see the improvements first hand. I'm sure many doctors have just about given up trying to get many patients to quit smoking and truly understand the benefits of harm reduction.

I'm sure no one here will have all the answers, but studies like this worry me. I know it looks like a good thing, but how accurate can they really be? There are so many variables to successfully quit cigarettes using ecigs (for some of us). Are they going to provide the ecigs? What brand are they going to use? Disposables? Are they going to provide different flavors? Tobacco only? Prefilled cartos? 2 piece system, 3 piece, mods?

In all seriousness I hope the study goes well.

Our own Elaine (Vocalek) from CASAA served as an advisor to Ricardo Polosa in his latest study.
If CASAA had the recognition and resources to do that more often, we wouldn't have to worry about those issues.

But heck, they sure have come a long way in just a few years.
And they are actually starting to be recognized as an authority in the field.

This is more than we could have hoped for if you ask me.
And it's all due to the tireless efforts of those who often get very little thanks.

That is great to know that we have an insider in there making sure that it is done right! I do think it's awesome, I just hope that every study that is done has a knowledgeable ecig user/CASAA to oversee the needs of the test subjects so that the outcome is accurate. And in our favor if that is not too selfish to hope for :D

Well, the "oversight" isn't as intense as all that. Dr. Polosa's research is being conducted in Italy and I've never been there. He does, however, consult me whenever he wants to know something about what vapers might think about this, that, or the other thing, or needs clarification on issues that are uniquely American, such as Why the FDA hates e-cigarettes.

We exchange emails, we occasionally talk on the phone, and have met once in person, when I drove him to the interview with the CBS reporter. What I like about him is that he is intelligent, curious, and very willing to listen even if the person doing the talking is a lay person rather than a fellow medical professional.
