What got to me was this exerpt from the "related" article.

"The cigarettes deliver a vaporized charge of nicotine without burning tobacco. But health officials say, in some cases, the product can still give off second-hand smoke."

Ummm, hello? It's a SMOKELESS electronic vaporizer - there IS no smoke. How can they say "in some cases, the product can still give off second-hand smoke."???

Ignorance; just plain ignorance.

As the mother of a teenager, I'm ALL FOR laws against selling these devices to minors. I sure as heck don't want my child ever getting addicted to nicotine (or anything else, for that matter). But trying to ban e-cigs is almost ......ed. LET people (especially smokers) see me using it. Let them ask me how it works. Let them ask me where they can get one and how THEY can quit smoking. How THEY can save the taxpayers millions of dollars in healthcare costs. How THEY can be healthier, and their children be healthier. How THEY may never run the risk of being another statistic of burning alive when they fell asleep with a lit cig in their hand.

Honestly this doesn't bother me in the slightest. I just started vaping a couple days ago, however I got an Inferno which looks nothing like an analog. If people really want to use them in public, they shouldn't use ones that look like analogs. Not to mention the people that would go out of their way to make something to smoke actual tobacco and look like an e-cig. Those few ruin it for the rest. As far as making it required to be 18+, it contains nicotine which is addictive, not a toy for a kid to be playing with.

* I don't agree with the smoking laws, however I do comply with them and don't push it by looking for "loopholes"*

I don't understand why it matters if it looks like a cigarette or not. I smoked cigarettes and when I chose to quit, I picked a brand that looks like a cigarette. It is no different than than your "Inferno". And the companies that I have purchased from only sell to 18+.

I feel like now we are going to have pc e-cig police.

Its all about the $ not our health.

If it was about our health the FDA and other health organizations would have taken a different view of Ecigs and what it can do for public health.

Its not about us Its about $$$$$$$$

I am not ignorant of this fact. Yet the board of health serves us. They need to be reminded of this. It is their obligation, their job description, it is why they exist. Choosing to fail in their duty is unacceptable.

Oh I completely agree. Washington is probably in a panic thinking of all the lost tax revenue with each cha-ching of an e-cig sale.

Yes, ignorance is bliss it seems. Knee-jerk reaction instead of doing some research. I wish more people would read to get the facts! I am amazed at how easy these make it to quit the analogs.

I have not tried vaping in public yet. I have around people who know me and, once I show/explain to them, there is no problem.

It's not as if there isn't research out there, either. One series of youtube videos I watched by this guy Shawn were incredibly informative (and it was fun watching his progress over the last year of first starting e-cigs and where he is now). In this video found here: YouTube - zigcigs's Channel he specifically talks about a study done in the early 1940's about the effects of flushing the air with....guess what? PG vapor!!! Yes, that's right folks. There was a study done in the 1940's and the results of that study. Take a look and either see if you can find the actual report (I'll be looking for it too) or use the link to send to YOUR state representatives before THEY get stupid and try to ban e-cigs.

I wonder if they sell pipe tobacco there............hmmmmmmmm, seems the way they keep the tobacco fresh and mold free is by using PG and as we all know, number 1 ingredients in e-cigs are the same ingredients in pipe tobacco.ie, nicotine( except it comes from nasty ol'burnt tobacco instead of nice clean Pharmacutical Nicotine) annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd PG!!!, YES the same reason they want to ban the e- cig........is also in tobacco, go figure...Ban one? Ban 'em all and see what happens............

The article states that the ecigs are confused with real cigarettes... Just use a colorful blingged out illuminated mod. No one will confuse that. From my read; as long as it can't be confused, you should be OK. But I ain't the guy writing up tickets to pay for the salaries of the ticket writers.

I would like to see someone confuse my REO for a cigarette. I don't use conventional ecigs I quit smoking and don't wont my PV to look like a cigarette.
But that's just me :)

The fact is Gregoire and this very blue state put tax into affect a couple yrs. ago that is still adding tax increases to tobacco products for a couple yrs. yet. They were, and still are, counting on that money and are not going to make it easy for people to stop smoking.
I think I'll get a car battery, put wheels on it, hook my passthrough up to it and use it when I go to King County. I'm sure they won't mistake that for an ecig.

I would like to get ahold of the text of the article because that's where the data is, that's where we have the knowledge to make informed arguments, the synopsis just won't do. If anybody reading this has access to it, please PM me.

I've tried to find the data set upon which the FDA drew their conclusions, but it looks like if I want it, I have to file an FOIA and either pay the fees or also file for a fee waiver, and even then it could be months before I receive any useful info.

The biggest problem with this whole debate is that the information upon which the legislators are basing the decisions is not readily available/transparent.

I will try to keep digging.

I used to live near king county. And this doesn't surprise me at all, I'm surprised it is taking this long.

While I don't agree with the ban, I can see why they might want to do it. It's not the actual smoking they want to ban as much as it is the mentality that comes with non smokers seeing someone smoking whether it is electronic or real, most don't pay enough attention to tell the difference.

and then you have the people who feel the need to ruin it for everyone and try to get by with lighting a real cigarette when they see people using electronic cigarettes, or those people who honestly think that smoking is allowed because they see someone smoking what looks like a cigarette.
