i don't know if this has been discussed here before. i have read about koh gen do. i have read about Japanese cotton. i have read about organic cotton. i have been using koh gen do exclusivly ever since amazon delivered my 60 pads about 1 month ago. last week i received 30 pads of organic Japanese innovapor cotton. i like the koh gen do so much i haven't even tried the innovapor. i would like to know if the koh gen do is organic because it doesn't say on their packaging. i know everyone has their favorite. i am hoping to get some input on the differences between them and what some of you like the best and why. thanks for the help

Directly from the horse's mouth:

What else you need to know:
The cotton used for this product was raised without the use of chemical fertilizer or pesticides to ensure pure, safe, superb quality.

As to my favorite, I go back and forth between cotton and rayon, depending on the build. But I must have the palate of a neanderthal, I haven't been able to tell the difference between Koh Gen Do, Muji, and "regular" organic cotton balls. I just use the pads because they're a little easier to re-wick, for me.

Fan of Rayon, myself. For me, I don't ever get that "new cotton" taste with Rayon. It seems to wick better than cotton, and doesn't shrink up like cotton can. You can and should use more Rayon than you would with cotton. I've never had Rayon scorch inside the coils like cotton can.

First i used non-organic regular cotton-balls... way back.
They had a really long break-in period and had a nasty by-taste.
Then i used organic cotton balls... shorter break in period, after which the by-taste would be gone.
Then i used koh-gen-do. Almost no by-taste and fibres all go in the same direction for better wicking properties, still use that.
Also use Rayon... Cellucotton and fibrefreaks. Very, very good. I am vaping on some Cellucotton right now. So tasty.
However, i am still undecided what i like better, koh-gen-do or rayon.

Koh Gen Do is just one brand of "Japanese cotton". Really the whole "Japanese cotton" name is marketing bull. It's really just ELS (Extra Long Staple) cotton that comes from either China or India and is imported into Japan. Japan has no real measurable amount of domestic cotton production.

And don't bother with any cotton that claims it's for vaping or comes from an ecig shop either. Koh Gen Do and other "Japanese cotton" sheets were made for removing makeup. You can buy them at any beauty supply shop, and can usually get 100+ sheets for $10 or less.

For example, 180 sheets for $6.82.

I guarantee you any vape shop out there is buying that, and then selling you 10-20 sheets for $10.

so "ko gen do" is japanese cotton. that is what i was questioning ever since i started using it. i will keep using that because it seems not to have any taste or break in period.

That is correct. Koh Gen Do is a "premium" brand name Japanese cotton which they export to beauty supply shops around the world. It's not necessarily better than other Japanese cotton sheets, but it's the most well known and is name brand. Sort of like Coke rather than the stuff in the can that says "Cola" on the side.

I use it too, mostly because my wife has been buying it for years to remove her makeup and I just steal from her supply.

This doesn't really answer the OP's question but here is a video that tests a few different wicking options that may help somebody out. The video does specifically discuss Koh Gen Do, rayon, hemp, and organic cotton balls, along with a few unscientific tests between these.
I have no opinion about any of these options since I never moved away from genesis setups.

I started with organic cotton balls. Then switched to Koh Gen Do - it was easier to cut just needed amount of it. More convenient. Once I rewicked my tank in a dark room with only table lamp. It was good lighting to see how much cotton "dust" was going out of Koh Gen Do pad when cutting. So, I stopped using it. I believe it was harmless tiny bits of cotton fibers, but I did not like it. As with a haire in a soup - harmless, but unpleasant. Went back to cotton balls. Recently was buying spare parts on Fasttech and found out they carry cotton bacon 2. Bought it, tried it. Will use it until it lasts, than - back to balls. Bacon is a bit more convinient, but I do not expect I will buy and vape relating stuff for a year or two (but I believe one pack will lasts for me for a year or more; just 1.5 pads of Koh Gen Do was needed for a year).

So, my opinion:
Wicks from organic cotton balls, Koh Gen Do, and cotton bacon work equally good. No difference. They all have aftertaste at the beginning. Difference is in convenience and price. Koh Gen Do is convenient but "dusty" and cotton bacon is a bit more convenient that balls, and cotton balls are the cheapest. And again: performance of all these cottons is equal.
