I got me some kgd cotton from Barney's just after I installed new contacts in my grand. I kept getting a burnt taste so I tried upping my ohms thinking the new contacts were overpowering the setup or something. No change in the burnt taste - like it wasn't wicking well. I tried more/less dense wicks, long/short wicks, moving my coil closer to the posts, etc, but it just wasn't tasting right.
Went back to my common cotton balls and the flavor I was missing returned. I know many are having real good luck with the kgd cotton and I'm wondering why I couldn't keep the burnt taste away? Thought maybe I got a bad batch with too many tiny little cotton seeds in it that I may be burning? I really like the thought of using of pure cotton like this.
The only time I've ever gotten a burnt taste from any cotton was a result of the coil having hot spots or a hot leg. What coil build are you using? Seed material should have no effect. Depending on the length your drag, cotton wicks require squonking every few hits and needs to be soaked but not flooded over the coil.
adt: short wicks are great but dry out very quickly. I use a little more length on one end my cotton wicks so that they have a little juice in reserve to wick up.
