So, I've been looking into doing my first mod, and was wondering if anyone has ever tried to make a NicoStick for the KR-808D1 style cartomizers?

I have a spare battery that I dropped and the internal switch is junk now. I was planning on ripping the connector off the end and throwing it in the battery box from nicowolf's tutorial.

Any tips or tricks I should know before venturing into (seemingly) uncharted territory?

Thanks.

Okay, so I finished my very first mod today, and I'm pretty happy with it. I don't have a 3.7v battery to test its proper function yet, but it does work (1.5v just isn't enough to heat up the atomizer, lol). All in all, it only took me about 30 minutes to make this, and $4.50 in parts (not including batteries, which I need to order ASAP).

If you look close to the mouth piece end, you can tell how poor of a cut job I did. For some reason I couldn't find my appropriate size routing bit; so I had to use 1/2" which was way to big! I plan on fixing it up with a little epoxy around the over sized hole just so its a little more aesthetically pleasing.

I'll be ordering a battery very soon and will be updating this when I can actually vape with it.

Also, I heard that the threads from a 901's battery is the same as the KR-808D1, is this true? I wouldn't mind having the option of using a 901 atty/cartridge AND nebula cartomizer on one device.

Nice work :)

I thought I had replied to you earlier but I must have been distracted. Just wanted to say then that I saw no reason you cannot do this, although I am not familiar with 808s.

You might find that with this connector that it can be fitted into the case so that the atty is flush with the case (as opposed to recessed) or recess a bit more (depends on how long the cart is, if you use one).

Not sure if half of the red wire is indeed insulated; if not, take care of that.

You might see if you can find suitably sized washers to glue around any jagged holes; just an idea.

When ordering your 14500, make sure it is the high power/current type and not marked as a 'backup' or 'speciality' type (not for computers).

Tip for making holes: start with a small scredriver and once can get a sciscor blade in there (just one of the blades), use that to gradually make the hole bigger; sounds naff but produces neat holes and quickly too so test size every so often.

Thanks for the kind words. :)

With the 808 style units, the atomizer is encased in the cartridge as one unit. Since I didn't have to worry about where the atomizer would be in relation to the cartridge, it was one less thing I had to consider. With this type of system I can screw in a new cartomizer, puff away, and when done, unscrew it and screw in a new one.

I really can't wait till I get a battery to test this thing out! I'm eager to test the battery life, but I'm more concerned with adequate vapor production, but only time will tell. To be honest, I really had no reason to make this other than boredom, but I'm glad I did.

The second one gives the professional look ;)

So, I got a little impatient today waiting for my batteries to come, so I hacked up an old USB cable, and soldered it in place. No reason to post pics, its the same box with a goofy cord coming out of it now, but 5v rocks!

I think I'm the first person on these forums to be using KR-808D1 carts at 5v. Probably not a good idea with all the talk of burning polyfill from overheating, but the vape is stronger than it ever has been.

Now I have to go get another box and switch for v2.0 :D

After using it on 5v I doubt you'll be satisfied with the battery powered vape.

I think your right. I'm amazed at the vapor I get from these prefilled carts in a quick 2 second drag.

I think for v2.0, I'll use two 14500's in series, so I can take 5v around with me. I'll of course have to use a resistor to cut the voltage down, but no one seems to make a 5 volt battery, lol.

sweet. try cutting open the poly when you finish a cart and see how the filler holds up. These sometimes have problems with burning cart material. Sopposedly the greencig cartomizers (same size, different design, slightly more expensive) don't have this problem.

nhaler.com seems to be making a high voltage mod that will accept these cartomizers as well.

I just took my 901 mod , unscrewed the 901 atty and screwed on the kr808d-1 atty and viola!!! It works! I had some left over cartomizers. Well, next step is to see how long this cartomizer works without having to top off. Great idea!!! Cause I can't even suck a drag with it on a 901 batt.
I will have to try my friend's white cloud cartomizer next.

BTW, I'm using a 14500 3.7 batt.

The atomized cart on my 901 box mod went 6 hours of more than moderate vaping without topping off!

I think that the atomized cartridge certainly has a better designed system than regular atomizers. I don't get 6 hours on a cart without topping off.

That gave me 6 hours of not topping off or changing a battery.

thanx for that info, i was under the impression i'd need a 901 cartomizer adaptor just to get cartomizers working on a box mod...well other than making a new box mod just for the 808...

i believe the 901 carts hold much less liquid as well, that could explain it...i forget how much a 901 holds, but a cartomizer holds about 1ml...

Regards openthewell,

you might find this thread interesting?

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/battery-mods/42074-looking-nerf-how-might-one.html

also there's a Radio Shack part, #274-1583 that is better than a battery connector for making kr808d-1 or 901 box mods...

I'm toking my 5v. (kr808d-, Nebula, VK... etc.) Nico stick running off a single 14500 "AW" 750mAh 3.7 Lithium Battery right now...

now you need to make another USB gizmo for your car...

look for a cig lighter to USB adapter that's rated @1 amp.

the .500ma units may work? but you'll find them to be a little weak...

welcome to modding, you may not be the first, but I'm pretty sure you won't be the last...

rock-on with your button down

Best Regards
fo

I was wondering why don't more people use the RCA jacks and plugs for their mods? That way one box will be able to use all types of atomizers when you make adapters for them? That seems more economical than making a box for each type.

For myself:

1. I don't want to have to mod every atomizer I want to use.

2. I want to use my atomizers on regular batteries every now and again.

3. I don't like the look of the RCA connectors, and they add extra length.

4. I like making new, specialty mods, and the RCA connectors won't always fit...I'm trying to push the limits and keep everything as tightly packed as possible. I don't think you could fit an RCA connector in the mod in my avatar pic, for example.

5. I don't want one box mod, I want dozens! That way, there's always a backup lying around to use in an emergency, or give to a friend, which leads to....

6. If I give a mod to a friend, I don't want to have to teach them how to make RCA adapters just to use it. I'd rather just point them to a website where they can buy replacement parts.

1. Your not modding the atomizer at all, just the connection to the atomizer.

2. I use the same atomizer on my 510 as I do my box mods.

3. I'll give you the added length, but if there is room inside the box the female RCA jack can be embedded inside.

4. Today I finished making my box mod like yours with an RCA connection. It's not pretty because it was the first try, but it works and now that I see where I made some mistakes the next will be better.

5. I've made 5 box mods and one flashlight mod all with RCA connectors. I use the same RCA connector for all. Just pull it out of one and plug it into another.

6. When you give them the box mod you give them the RCA connector already made. They can then buy attys from anywhere. It also will allow them, if they are so inclined, to build there own RCA connector for a different type of atty.

I'm not trying to be difficult here but it would seem as though you may have a slight misunderstanding of how the RCA system works. I can post a picture of my 5v mod in a 2xAA box with an RCA jack if you would like.
