I just received my Kraken from FT a few days ago and I've rebuilt 3 times since then, 2 dual coil builds (0.5 ohms and 0.9 ohms) and a single coil build (1 ohm), all micro coils with 400 SS mesh for wicking. When I build dual coils on this I seem to get a hotspot on one side or the other unless my wick is touching the bottom of the tank. What would cause this and is this safe? Everything I've read says not to let your wick touch the bottom due to potential grounding issues, but so far I haven't noticed any decrease in output or any issues with my batteries getting hot or venting. Has anybody else experienced this? Any help would be appreciated.

Not totally sure why you're getting a hot spot. Just be patient and try to work them out so both coils glow evenly. My wicks touch the bottom occasionally. If your wicks are well oxidized and you don't have any shorts to the wick it doesn't matter if it's touching the bottom of the tank. It isn't a great practice to have them touch the bottom though as it can cause issues if you develop a short or are pulsing hot spots out of your coil/building oxidation between your coil and wick.

SS mesh is conductive so you need to build a layer of oxidation between your coil and wick. Without juice in your tank and with the wick inserted pulse fire the coil and make small adjustments to it until the whole thing glows evenly without any hotspots. Only then do you add juice. Everyone who uses genisis atomizers and mesh or rope deals with hotspots. You just have to be patient and adjust the coil until it glows evenly.

Thank you for the information everybody. I'm familiar with hotspots on gennies (they're my primary tanks) and have experience with removing/fixing hotspots. I always oxidize my wicks multiple times so I don't short my coils. I've just never heard of/experienced a hotspot that goes away when the wick touches the bottom of the tank.. I rebuilt it last night though. New wicks and coils, same build ( dual 8/7 wrap micro coils with 30 AWG Kanthal and 400 SS mesh that's rolled into a "straw", 0.9 ohms) and it's been working great. No hotspots with or without the wick touching the bottom. Success! :D Thanks again everybody!
