Has anyone tried putting cotton or ekwool inside of a SS mesh? My assumption is the inside being a more absorbent material will wick a bit more and with the outter being mesh the coil would evenly heat the mesh and produce more vape then just the traditional SS mesh alone.

I thought the mesh should be kinda hollow, like straw action. Plug the straw, and less/no flow. Right?

I've got a TIGHT layer of hollow ekowool over my mesh. I think it's 2mm ekowool. Works great for me. I also don't flame the mesh before OR after rolling it. I just hit the edges to burn off any wild hairs.

What material is that you are wicking with? I went from rsst with ceramic(great results) to a kraken(clone) and cannot for the life of me get wicking correct.

But when I got a kfl+(clone), couldn't get it to stop working right If I tried.

Best I could get one my kraken was silica to wick, with cotton bed at top, and a nice microcoil.

When you wrap your coil, need be loose or tight on the ekowool?

I have tried both, but not in a kraken.
I did cotton core mesh in my rsst, and 1mm silica core in my I atty.
Both seemed to wick good.
My kraken will be waiting for me when I get home from work.
Gonna try a standard mesh wick to start and see how it goes.

I seem to get the best results from getting the ekowool as tight as possible.
And when you do your kanthal wrap, make it tight as well, but not SUPER OMG tight.
You just want to make sure it's making complete contact with the wick.
When you wrap your coil, need be loose or tight on the ekowool?

IMO, the cotton wick I'm using tastes better in the Kraken than it does in my vivi nova or my t3s. But, its not a giant leap above them. Just noticeably better.

yes. kraken/Neme (clone) lover here. Watched a few videos bought a couple nemes and a couple krakens (clonage) from fasttech (3 weeks only). Built my first coil (didn't need much tweekin. Put the organic cotton (boiled) through the coil and into the tank (both wick holes). came out to exactly one ohm and damn! I am seriously buzzed. This may be a problem. But it seems to wick fine. Just gotta be careful how thick yer cotton wick is I guess.
When I was checkin ohms I forgot to put juice on the wick and poof! it was gone.

This is a great post and I was actually just doing the same search for Kraken info. I got mine Friday and my first build was dual cotton build and I ran into wicking issues. Ive been messing around with it for the past three days trying to get it to wick right. Ive built numerous cotton builds, numerous mesh builds and Im gonna try ss rope/ekowool sleeve next. It just doesnt wick right for me and Im running into constant burnt hits. I cant figure it out but besides the issues I really like the construction and look. Its leaps and bounds above my RSST and Im looking forward to using it more often when I eventually get it working right for me.
Add a piece of SS mesh to the wick hole. Make sure that it sits up about a mm to soak up the cotton. Then there will be no need to tilt.

just a little dual build action. 2/3 wrap with twisted 32ga on mesh. clocks in at .44ohm

I can't get rid of the machine oil taste that's left in my brass Kraken clone from 101vape. I know others have run into this issue before, and I've tried soaking it first in REALLY hot water and then leaving it overnight, so about 15 hours. Didn't help at all. I then soaked it in straight (but cheap, we're talking Popov, that crap that comes in the plastic jug) vodka for about 30 hours. STILL no dice.

I did, to be boringly obvious, have the thing completely disassembled. But I can't get rid of this terribly nasty taste. Is it possible that a few of these are just beyond hope? Is this even grounds for requesting a replacement?

Scrub and rub and work that oil out of there. As I've sworn the holy oath never to use cotton in my gennies, I use rolled up TP and screw it into every screw hole and force it through every nook and cranny. Same for any screws. Soak in alcohol, screw them into TP.

(Ok I do use Q-tips to clean gennies... but I do find TP better and more screwable.)

Big ups for the tips guys. By "degreaser" do you mean a....hmmm....natural degreaser, or something more like regular counter-top cleaner/degreaser?
Just want to be sure.
Either way it'll get a thorough rinsing under hot water afterwards.
REALLY looking forward to using this $(#@ing thing. It looks radical on the Maraxus clone. :)

I just ordered a Tobeco version. It seems to get the best reviews. I would not suggest buying anything without knowing the mfg.. I feel I got ripped on a Kayfun lite and Nemesis with no box or unmarked box, no telling who made them. From now on, I do not buy anything until I see the box in the pic (and Tobeco is not the best clone mfg for a lot of stuff, just so happens they supposedly did right with the Kraken according to reviewers).

Anyway, since I ordered a clone, it will not come with the SS cable. I can order on ebay, but I do not know what length I need. I am pretty sure I need the 2.5 width since the hole is 2.8. I was thinking about getting some thicker wire, but I have a spool of 28g and it seems that most of you are using that. So what length SS cable do I need to order?

They have a few "green" degreasers on the market. I just used the one I have in my garage then boiled the atty parts. It's just soap with a oil release & emulsifier agent. So long as you don't drink it… :p
