By popular request, :) , the non-toxic treatment for fireants is called Ascend! It's apparently a bait that is virtually irrestible to the ants and they rush rush to take it to the queen, who is sterilized by it, along with any other queens in the mound! My feedstore owner (who's a buddy) said instead of doing it according to package directions, he laid his out in a 4' by 4' grid and got rid of ACRES of ants very quickly! He also said it's pretty pricey (I forgot to ask how much), but that a little goes a looooooong way and you don't have to do it over and over because once the queens die, the mound dies.

I will definitely be using it if ours come back, and I'm going to get my kids some, 'cause they're having a problem with them.

Sorry I was so slow with this! :)

Thanks!! So glad we don't have fire ants here....those things are horrible!

I'm surprised they haven't made it up there yet, but I guess the winters are too cold for them! Hope so!

Fudgey, I'm surprised at you -- a good Okey lettin all those good cow patties go to waste!

You have my sympathy -- I only ever worked payroll in training rotation at a couple of jobs, but it sucks -- the employees want to blame you for every mistake that management caused!!

Thank you and yes there are days it does get to us. One good thing is that with all the changes and how busy we are HR is telling people to back off of us :D:D

Does anyone have a recipe for shampoo or skin treatment for itchy dogs? I'd prefer not to give them benadryl...but it's getting to that point

I need one too for the daughters dog.

Use Aveeno shampoo or soap (or generic equivalent) -- just make SURE it has the colloidal oatmeal. Works on people, too! Another option is to just buy colloidal oatmeal at the health food store and soak it, then use the water as a rinse. If that doesn't work, then you probly need the benadryl. I have two that are allergic to fleas (and they're not the first one's I've had) and we go thru this nearly every spring!! Because of all the strays around here, it takes a while for the Advantage to kill them out during the first surges, so we have a problem for a while every year. Sometimes I hafta take ours to the vet for steroids -- even the benadryl doesn't work! :(
