I have a problem! Been vaping for 2 years without any problems, then...BAM!, I just lost my voice on March 25. I remember having a sore throat, so I chalked it up to a viral infection and thought it would go away in a week or so. At 2 weeks, I was only marginally better and getting worried, so I went to an ENT doc for a checkup. He felt my neck for any sign of lumps or abnormalities and did a larangyscopy. Everything looked normal. He said it's nothing to worry about and should clear up soon. There was improvement at the 3 week mark, so I thought I was in the clear. Well, today, I realized I was wrong. It got significantly worse (as bad as when I first got it) My throat is not sore but I can barely make a sound:( I took a quick inventory of what new vaping supplies I purchased, right before I got this problem and the only things that fit the timeframe is one of my new favorite juices, Geoffs BlendI get it in 80/20 PG/VG and 36mg, same as all my other TV juices and use in a V4L coolcart) from TV and my 5V GLV2. I'm assuming the problem stems from vaping, as I have not made any other kinds of lifestyle changes. I'm gonna try not to vape Geoff's blend for a whole week, to see if that helps. If anybody has had a similar experience or has any suggestions that might help me out, I'd be most grateful:)

After a few weeks of trial and error, I think I finally found the culprit! I have no idea why, but my favorite juice, The Vanillaz!, from Digitalciggz seems to be what was causing my chronic laryngitis. It was the only one of my newer juices I hadn't eliminated because I didn't think something so mild would cause problems. I emailed the company about my situation because I really want to know exactly what goes into this juice, but I've not heard back from them:(

I got a cold almost 2 weeks ago and although my sinus issues are starting to clear up, the laryngitis has not.

I'm vaping one of two LibertyLiquids - Cream and IrishCream.

Not sure if vaping is the culprit here, but after returning from my vacation last night, I vaped a lot more than usual and my voice is a lot more hoarse than it had been yesterday.

I'm still having voice issues. After reviewing all my symptoms and doing alot of research, I think I may have an acid reflux problem that is either caused or aggrevated by my using high nic strength.

I definately have an acid reflux condition now, that I've never had in my life, but it is now fully controlled with OTC meds. No more voice issues:)

MsOC, glad you are on the mend! It does sound like it was a bug of some kind, but it might have been made worse with vaping. Was the juice high in PG? I know it will do a real number on my throat. Did the vanillaz juice make you cough? There is currently a concern about "custard notes" in some flavorings, vanilla custard by capellas being one such flavor. Custard notes are particular compounds that impart a custard-like quality to the flavoring. But they are also implicated in irritation and/or lung damage, similar to the diacetyl problem that popcorn workers have gotten. Not at all likely your situation is anywhere nearly as bad as that incident, but its true that not all flavors are benign to inhale.

Back to the PG, though. It causes me not only throat and mouth problems, but also gastric issues too. I vape only VG juices now, and have none of these issues anymore. Too much nic will nauseate, for sure, but PG was a real problem for me, and is for many here. Looks like you have being around here for a while, so this might not be news for you, but thought I would ask anyway.

The last few weeks, south eastern part of Virginia has been under "smoke" watch/warning from wildfires in North Carolina. I've been vaping for 2 years come July 20th (2009). I've never had any problems with my voice that I can attribute to vaping. BUT, the wood smoke in the air the last month has given me a raspy voice. I know for sure this is what's causing my raspy voice. Could it be there's wildfire smoke in the air where you live? I've heard there are wildfires in Texas and there's always some kind of wildfire going on in California. Just food for thought on the subject.

I kid you not, my Aunt and Uncle heated their house with wood burning heaters. My entire life every winter when we would visit, I would get a sore throat and raspy voice, that is until we figured it out. I only visited in the non-heat part of the year, the rest of the time we communicated by phone.

Initially, I thought it was a bug, Kurt, but after the 6th week that began to seem unlikely. I started out vaping 100%PG and did so for a whole year with absolutely no issues. The Vanillaz was the 1st 50/50 juice I'd vaped, so I thought I might have an issue with VG, even though the majority of my juices are 80PG/20VG but that wasn't the case either because I found 2 new juices I absolutely love and they are both 90%VG. I heard about the custard flavoring issue, which is why I asked Digitalciggz what that flavor was made with. To this day, I have never recieved a reply to that question:( For whatever reason, out of the dozens of juices and combinations of PG/VG I have, only 2 cause me problems. Neither are from the same vendor and have different ratios. What I don't know is if they share a common irritating ingredient. Call me crazy, but as an experiment, I vaped the other offending juice (TV's Geoff's Blend) yesterday and sure enough, after about 2hrs, the sore, irritated throat and hoarse voice came back.

Very interesting, Grammie! Occasionally, the PineBarrens(aka:Home of the Jersey Devil) catch fire around here. The smoke doesn't usually make it's way to the ocean, but who knows. There have been "air quality" alerts from the weather channel, off and on, and I usually don't even pay attention because I've never had breathing issues and living right next to the ocean with it's strong onshore summer winds usually keeps the air quite clear but, again, who knows:blink:

No breathing problems because of the smoke in the air, just a raspy voice. It isn't coming from vaping.I thought I'd throw this out there because there could be other causes rather than just vaping.

You're absolutely right, appreciate you're point of view and am trying very hard not to be one of those people who blames every weird thing that happens to them(since they started using electronic cigs) on vaping. It will, however, remain a strong consideration, at least in this case, as laryngitis caused by inhalation of irritating substances seems to be the most likely cause and none of us really know for sure if all eliquids are 100% safe.

I saw that the last post here was from June of 2011, but on the off chance those from this thread especially MsOceanCity are still linked to it. I started vaping in September of 2011 and became very hoarse after two days of vaping but i was so happy to be off of analogs that I just kept going thinking maybe it would just pass with time. I still am very hoarse and have just accepted it as being the way my voice is now supposed to sound. After reading these posts though i am thinking maybe I should try a few more things. I have yet to go to the Dr. since i don't have insurance and it is just very expensive as everyone knows. Sounds like the Dr. may not have the answers anyways especially where i live since I may be the only vaper in Northern Iowa.
Anyhow any suggestions on what I could try besides changing how much pg, vg, and pga I use or drink more liquids because at this point i have tried every variation of mixing my own liquids and the hoarseness remains and I drink upwards of 180-200 ozs of water a day so I am sure it isn't dehydration.

Thanx in advance
