Folks, I'm flying up to San Fran for the weekend (first trip as a vaper) and just want to double-check a couple of things related to setting off alarms. I've been reading old threads but still wonder about these:

* can I safely vape in an airport restroom?

* can I safely vape in a hotel room?

Context: I once cleared out a 4-star Minneapolis hotel by setting off the fire alarm at 2:00am. I'd left the shower running to add moisture to the room and had no idea that the moisture could trigger the alarm. The Fire Dept. explained it to my afterward while 100s of guests stood shivering outside the hotel. Definitely don't want that to happen again!

Thanks for any wisdom, fellow vapers.

I used to work security in a major hotel. The smoke detectors in the rooms were not tied into the fire dept.....for the reason you already mentioned....clearing a hotel in the middle of the night by accident. Set one off in a hallway or other area...and you will have hefty firemen rolling through the doors. I just blew a nice vapor cloud into my home detector. Went off just like it did when I smoked under it....so sit across the room when vaping.

Worst case....if you do set one off.....nobody will smell ciggie smoke, so just put your E-cig away and play dumb when they come pounding on your door. In fact...get upset and demand that the hotel give you free night for disturbing you with a faulty detector. ;)

I cleared a Marriott by setting off the duct detector with drill dust, but that's another story. ;) I was _very_ unpopular. But yeah, I've vaped frequently in hotel rooms, and my good friend I turned on to vaping does it constantly (he travels 300+ days a year).

I think that's one of the biggest things for him, not having to pay the fines for smoking in entirely smoke-free hotels anymore.

I cleared my hotel once too. I was doing a series of scheduled tests of the new system and writing reports on it. Unfortunately, I forgot to put the system into test mode....and it was live when I pulled the pull station handle.

Lots of free nights were given out that day I can tell you. Surprised to this day they didn't fire me for that one....but they did fire me 6 months later for taking a swing at someone. So it all worked out in the end.

Anyone else here clear a hotel? Seems to be the "in" thing to do. :D

I was hole-sawing a 2" hole for a conduit penetration through a firewall. Didn't realize the duct was about 15' away, and even if I had, I wouldn't have given a second thought to the duct detector going off from the dust.

It was around 3am, of course. Fire doors slamming shut, annoying voice order evac, every freakin' big hook-and-ladder rolling up...

I've been finding a quiet spot in the airline lounge to vape without problems. I've been to 4 different airports since starting to vape and I've never had a problem with the airport restroom.

As far as hotels, not a single problem. I usually stay at Marriott properties and I've never had a single problem and I power vape when I get back to my room. No alarms, never a problem.

I just used a shorty battery and vaped in the airport, covering the LED with my hand and holding in the vapor. Same thing on the plane. I didn't need to do it much - I think just having it with me made me not get all bent out of shape like I would've in the past with cigarettes. As far as the hotel, no problem at all.
