So, like many others here I found a vaping sweet spot years ago and haven't changed anything since. Therefore with the incredible advancement in vaping I find myself completely lost in the sea of information. While I didn't keep up on all the tech I did however keep up on all the legislation, petitions, etc like we all should.

I have stuck with nothing but provari mods and kayfun tanks. Those were the "IT" devices way back when. I make my own 24mg pg juice, .28 ga kanthal with ecowool coils. I'm not crazy about my resistances either. Usually I'll throw a coil together and be happy if it's under about 2ohms and adjust voltage accordingly. I also tend to use that coil until it breaks or goes over 3 ohms. My setup, for lack of a better word, sucks hard now. I always have to puff on this thing to actually get it going, minimal vapor minimal taste. Sick of my friends new to vaping walking into a vape shop and coming out with a better vape than I have at a 1/4 of the cost of all my stuff!

Hopefully that will change now with the help of you guys! Researching things best I can with minimal time I found these two mods that peaked my interest.
First the radius. Of course my first instinct was to goto provape like I have since the v1 provari. This thing looks nice and seems to have just the basics.
Now the lava box. One look with that red cover and the few reviews I watched....fell in love! But like mom taught me....never judge a book by it's cover! Seems to have every feature imaginable, scares the hell out of me lol but I'm tech savvy so I should be able to figure it out.

This is what's important to me in a mod and my usage pattern. I vape all day, my provari is never further than arms reach. Always ripping but that may change with a better setup as what I'm using now isn't ideal. Whatever one I decided on it must be....DURABLE! Will be used at work (RHVAC tech) and it will be dropped at some point, either easily charged or exceptional battery life (both would be perfect of course lol) and I love options and playing with settings.

Hopefully I didn't leave anything out or put anyone to sleep with this wall of text. Any and all advice is welcomed and appreciated!

I sorta have all the above.

I say sorta cause I don't use the Radius much and currently its lost. Not to sad about losing that particular mod but it was pretty expensive. I've looked everywhere except where it is.

The LavaBox was a gift to my son. I personally use a VT200.

The Radius is an ok mod in the 25w or less range. Battery life is ok. Its abit chunky in the hand. Fire button isn't placed ideally for me. Over 25w the Radius kinda falls apart. Battery life become extremely poor. It has a bunch of settings built in that cut performance. I find myself constantly looking at the tank after the vape thinking this should be performing better. For low wattage vaping I prefer the 2.5 Mini and for normal vaping it hasn't worked out for me. The Radius is almost never used and could be missing for days and I wouldn't notice it was gone, oh wait.................

The DNA200's have been great. My son has his set up for everything under the sun. For very high wattage (80+) battery life can be a factor. I use mine for normal wattage vaping in the 30-50w range with SS wire and battery life is outstanding. Its nice in that it works great for people who like to play and for people who don't.

Two huge thumbs up for the DNA200 from this family.

Amazing insight thank you! How do you feel about durability with the lavabox? I'm used to getting 4+ years out of a mod...would need to at least gimme 2 solid years to justify cost.

Honestly we are both mod collectors with ADD.

I find the perfect mod then suddenly...............squirrel.....................

The only mods that have stood the test of time for me are the SX Mini, the 2.5 Mini and so far the VT200

With my rotation I expect decades out of each mod. Not counting damage and loss.

If you can get your hands on it, get the Dicodes Dani-Box. It's an extremely high quality 60 watt box mod that also does temp control. The build quality is superb and the Dicodes board is one of the best boards on the market and has loads of options. I've had mine for some time now and all my other mods (M-Class, ML-Class, rDNA30+40, SBody Macro) are now in the drawer.

@IronEagle - Your post is challenging to answer which is a good thing because it generates numerous opinions to consider. In some cases I'm going to play the devils advacate since you work outside in a semi harsh environment and in other cases I will just post what I think you should consider, driven by your wishes and my experiences. Not my wishes. In some respects it's an imperfect comparison since most of todays mods of any flavor have not been around for 2-5 years like the ProVari so it's really a best guess and I mean no offence to any of the other mods. After all, if you desire a usefull life of say 2-4 years how can we honestly say that's true unless we have owned a given mod for that long. Yes, we can guess and their is nothing wrong with that. :) So.. all Mods have trade offs and that's the nature of the beast.

- From the way you describe your vape it might be time to change wicking material to organic cotton (KGD) and build your KayFuns for the sweet spot which is about 1.4O OHMs. That's what I do and it fires on everything from my ProVari 2.5, P3, and the Radius. Along with all my DNA30 and DNA 40 devices that uses authentic Evolv Chips. And my REO squonkers. Try this clone which I also use and you can't beat the price at Kayfun Lite Plus V2 Dual Airflow Clone by EHPro.

- Regulated Mods with screens and micro USB charging ports are fine and as I previously stated, I own quite a few. The screen can also crack/break and then its good by. Even the micro USB chargingg port is prown to collect dirt and snap. Yes, I have a plug in my Radious and others. They break. They have electronics that fail.

- So what's left to use in the imperfect world of Mods. A REO squonker which of course is a mechanical and non regulated. Like ProVape, they have been around for years, service and fix their products and sell rebuild kits. Or, I just ordered a GP Paps V4 which is an old school mechanical which I have borrowed and been using for the last few weeks. An outstanding solution and often hard to purchase but today you can at GP PAPS version 4 Yes, GP has been around for years and services what they sell along with plenty of extra parts.

So...stepping into your shoes for a moment and pretending I'm going to a desert island what would I take?

A ProVari 2.5 and a GP Paps V4 along with a gaggle of KFL+ V2. Of course, I'm a single coil kinda guy and perfectly happy at around 13 watts.

I also use and like the Crown but that topper requires way more power than say a ProVari 2.5 or P3 can deliver so If I took one to my desert island :) I would take the ProVape Radius and the GP Paps V4. I'm fine at around 30 watts with that topper.

Good luck!

:)

All I can say is.....WOW! I truly appreciate the time spent on this from all of you.

While you are absolutely correct in your statement regarding durability, these mods haven't been out for years, while I totally realized that when posting it seems the right words escaped me. I should have asked instead something like...how does it feel in the hand, sturdy, weak, solid etc. And believe me I know better than most nothing lasts forever and acts of God happen.

Ultimately I have decided to put my quadcopter project on hold, order the lavabox first, play with it a week or so, and if I don't like it or still on the fence I can grab the radius. Too cold out to fly anyway lol!
On a side note I also decided to grab a kanger subohm mini after learning you could rba or use drop in heads. Not to mention the black and red one is gonna look awesome!

Happy to help. The Crown by Uwell supports drop in heads and for a few bucks extra a RBA deck which gets the job done if you wish to build your own. Rather tiny and can be tricky to wick but a nice hedge against the eventuall disappearance /lol of the heads.

The best solution for you is to find a local B&M to touch and hold. I'm fine with tube mods or the Radius which feels hefty and solid. Lots of nice balanced weight and a comfy fit. Kinda funny, a lot of folks don't hold the Radius in the best position. See:

Another vote for the Dicodes Dani box....I see no reason to pick the Provari over this one, except perhaps availability (not in stock rigth now anywhere, and hard to get in the US as there seems to be no official US supplier).
It is the same quality as a Provari, but loads more options and more wattage, also longer warranty.
You also stated easy charging....and Dicodes will release a charging dock in the near future, so another plus.
