Lavatube repair question

So I have a lavatube that I keep snapping off at the 510 connection. It keeps coming out of the plastic end cap. What I am wondering is: is it ok if I get rid of the plastic end cap the connector sits in and attach it straight to the underlying metal cap. I am not sure if the connector can ground to the body or if it needs to be insulated from the body. Thanks in advance for the help.

Thanks for the great picks I will look at the board a little closer. Based on that it "should" work.

It should if done proper. Just make sure the connector is insulated from the ring. Both the + & - for the atty come from the board its self. The ring is the ground for the battery.
