So after several unsuccessful attempts to use clearos instead of carto's, I was about to give up... But I figured out how to make these work better!

It seems that the problem with clearos is that the tank is a little bit too long. When you screw on the mouthpiece, it creates a seal with the clear silicone sleeve inside the clearo (the part with the metal pip). While closing the battery end with a finger and blowing into the mouthpiece shows that it is airtight, it isn't tight enough to prevent liquid from dripping into the air tube. I believe the main trouble areas are the slots where the wicks come out. While not in use, fluid gets in above the wicks, flooding the air tube and causing gurgling problems, which then cause liquid to get burned onto the atomizer, causing you to get a burnt taste and want to clean/dry burn the clearo.

The solution: take one of your old clearos and remove the clear silicone piece with pip. Remove the metal pip. Now when you look at the top of the silicone sleeve, you'll notice it's pretty thick. You will need to use a blade to cut the "sleeve" off, so you are left with just the top part, which is essentially a washer. Take the washer, drop it into the clearo you're currently using (on top of the sleeve that's currently in there. The pip will fit through the hole in the center. Screw on the mouthpiece and vape!

I cleaned and dry burned my clearo about a week ago and after doing this little mod, I've had zero fluid on the battery, no gurgling, and no burning. I've been topping it off maybe once per day.

I believe that this would be a non-issue if the manufacturer made the tank about a mm or two shorter, or made the top of that silicone sleeve twice as thick.

In any case, I hope someone finds this helpful!

Sitting down, facing forward.
I have limited experience with clearos, I only own one and use it rather sporadically, but I haven't had any problems with leaking or gurgling. I generally leave it attached to a 78mm battery laying horizontally on my computer/work desk (where I pay my bills, yuck!). It's been left that way for a day or two at a time (not too many bills anyway) and works like a charm each time I do use it. I plan on using cleros more once the Letter Carrier arrives, tomorrow, with my new X2 battery, some more clearos and some more liquid. If you made a video of your mod it might help. I would also suggest checking out the local Ace Hardware store for additional washers. They normally stock neoprene washers for faucets and such, all the way down to stuff as small as 1/8" in diamter. That would save taking a clearo apart for, what I assume, is a washer.

Awsum,

I've found that if you leave it attached to the battery without disturbing it, there's less problems with leaking. Since these things don't come with directions, we don't really know how they were meant to be used. For all we know, they are meant to be installed once and then left on until it's time to toss them... Many people (like me) own multiple clearos... Constantly swapping them (for different flavors) and carrying them in pockets causes the inner tube of the clearo to move around. If you take your clearo and push/pull on it, you'll notice that the tube moves rather freely. I'm thinking that yours doesn't have any issues (yet) because it's not being moved around much.

I thought about going to the hardware store for washers, but I wanted to give this a try first. I have a bunch of clearos (not from SI) with the shorter wicks, which leak so badly that I'm going to toss them out anyway... Which is why I didn't mind cutting up the silicone sleeve.

Also, to do this, you don't have to take the clearo apart... It's very easy... basically the same procedure as removing the pip/sleeve to do a dry burn. Essentially you are just using needle nose pliars to grab the pip and pull the pip/sleeve up and out of the clearo... If I have time at some point, I'll try to make a video :)

#47 "O" ring, Lowe's plumbing Dept., $2.27 for 10. squeeze it into Tip hole. Fits perfectly, screw on Tip.Take out with small jewelers screw driver. Creates a much tighter seal. Use 20 ga. needle to fill by moving the "O" ring with the needle. Should do the trick.

have you made sure the silver ring on the top is completely flush with the plastic? if it shifts from use it can cause an untight seal allow for leaking....
I am having this issue. No matter what I do I get liquid down into the battery consistantly gurgling etc. I don't have another one to fix it with. These things are a pain in my .... right now...

Are you filling it past the 1.6ml line? I used to have some trouble with leaking and gurgling, but I haven't had any issues since I stopped overfilling. It was just too tempting to try to cram as much juice as I could in there at first...:facepalm:

Well sadly I have decided to give up on these. I ordered 2, at the end of the day I kept getting leaking out the bottom batt connection. Wasnt a huge deal with my X2 manual but when i stored it on my desk i had a pool the next morning. I did get a little top leakage but I fixed that with suggestions above. These are just way to finicky for my me, I just cant do it anymore. I have a buddy with an ego and 501 stardust clearo and he doesnt seem to have any problems with leaks - he just keeps them in his pocket, etc. We compared and they look almost identical. I need KISS. guess im back to cartos :(

they are pretty much identical aside from the connection... have you tried the new ones? it may have been a juice issue cuasing the leak

You want to keep it simple wait for the new CE3. so long as you don't mind the syringe (I think it's easier) then you will get the best of both worlds. They hold as much as a clearo, don't leak at all, and are the size of a xl carto.

They are all so much easier to clean and even the clearo.

I have had no leaking problems after this fix BUT yesterday I noticed it was starting the leak and gurgle again (and give me some burnt tasting hits). I think this happens when the coil gets gunked up. It is unable to get hot enough, causing unheated liquid to drip down onto the battery. I removed the silicone sleeve/pip and cleaned the clearo with warm tap water... Then I blotted the coil with a q-tip and dry burned it until it glowed nice and red. After a quick rinse and dry I refilled it... No more leaks, and it tastes great following a day of use! I've been using this one clearo exclusively for more than two weeks and it's still going strong :). Try this before giving up on them completely!

Oh, and another thing... Don't be scared to dry burn the coil. Once all of the gunk gets cooked off, it will stop smoking and sizzling and just light up orange. Don't worry about burning the wicks... They won't burn! If it looks burnt around the coil, it's crap burnt to the coil and surrounding wick material... Not actually a burnt wick! Once cleaned, mine looked like new!

...but maybe stop once you see orange...don't wanna push your luck too far!

Yes, dry burn till you see orange, using 6-8 second bursts.

Once you see orange. Stop activating, give it a second to cool down, blow off the coil a little, then do another 4 second burn. Blow off again,NAND you are done. Once the coil is burning orange, you don't want to burn too long or you will pop the coil
