I had similar experience. Time in the micro coil thread broke me through to the other side.

Here's the video that did it....

Rewicking a micro coil with cotton - YouTube

This was 2 weeks after I got 40ft of high grade silica. Now it just sits..

I don't boil the cotton. IMO, it's not necessary. I do it about like the guy in the video, except I might use a bit more cotton. The trick, for me anyway, is to not fool with the cotton too much. You don't need to twist it until you make a piece of yarn out of it. Leave it fluffy. Just twist the end enough to get it started through the coil; and then trim that end off after pulling it through.

Funny thing...I couldn't get any cotton builds right until I switched to organic cotton balls.

I tried peaches and cream...the sterile cotton balls from CVS...none tasted very good.

Organic...roll into shape...and then if the cotton fights with you while inserting its too much cotton. It should have light resistance while sliding in.

Sounds dirty. Lol.

Doesn't short out 'cus the I'm running the positive connection from the bottom of the coil and the deck the coil is sitting on is also on the positive side. Just sort of consider it a really short leg.

This on a Kayfun Lite + and the liquid actually flows up that channel to where the wick is lying.

Oh; I meant the closeness of each coil wrap; they seem so close they might be touching and shorting;

So the wick would have to extend down throught that vertical channel? Or I guess you can just flip it to use it?

Edit - Coils can touch edyle - that's a old wives tale , check the micro coil thread and the Vcore thread I started.

I apologize I meant that in a friendly funny way. But guess it didn't come across that way to you... sorry! I had a feeling.. but quickly typed it. Please don't take it as an insult, I edited it to what I should have typed. ecf search engine is your friend. You have 484 posts you've been around a while I don't think you are new to the forum.

Anyone interested in cotton builds or have questions about them come check out my fb group "The Cotton Collective"

I rebuild everything with cotton!!! Right now I have a bunch of raw cotton but I also use organic cotton balls as well. I'll never go back to silica, mesh, ss rope, or ekowool. Cotton is so much easier to work with and the break in taste goes away much quicker than silica.

i use CVS Sterile Rolled Cotton. i like it a lot. its about $5 for a big box and i can see this box lasting me indefinitely. ive had it for several months and barely made a dent in it- made probably 100 wicks from it already.

oh, and i dont boil it. its sterile right out the box. its made to be packed into gaping wounds. if this is good to be inserted into a splice in your body, its good for vaping as far as im concerned.

It is for external use; it's sterile which means it has no GERMS. But it may have DISINFECTANT chemicals.

For wicking purposes a small amount of cotton goes a long way, so taking a little time to wash/boil a small batch once a month or once a year sounds worthwhile to me.

I waited for the longest time to try cotton and, now that I have, I'm kicking myself for not trying it sooner. I guess I was just comfortable with silica so I decided to use up what I had and then try cotton. My first cotton wick was a total success - far easier to work with than silica, in my opinion. The taste is much better, too.

I've only built about half a dozen cotton wicks but I've just been using a 5/64 drillbit to shape and install my coil and then threading the cotton through. I try to make the wick about as fat as I can pull through the coil without making it move. Seems work great so far. I've only been making micro coils so far. Funny story . .I accidentally wrapped a micro-coil using non-resistance wire. It came out to .3 ohms. I vaped it a few times. The cotton did just fine. No more silica for me.

DAYUM SON! I wondered how tough cotton was, and now I have my answer :p. As long as it's soaked I bet it could survive on a light-bulb coil, since that's pretty much what you made , how did she vape?

Instead of using cotton balls anymore, I just started using Lily 'Peaches n Cream' white cotton yarn and have had real good luck with it.

I make my coil using a 2.4mm (3/32") drill bit shaft, so the inside diameter is big enough that I can pull a double piece of yarn through the coil using a piece of wire.

This photo shows pulling a double piece of silica through the coil with a piece of wire ... but its the same idea when using cotton yarn (which I think is much better than silica).

The tails on the silica are are really too long in the 2nd photo, but you get the idea anyway.

BTW ... The coil I use is 28 AWG Kanthal at 1.6 ohms (I feed it 3.8v which is 9.0 watts on a 1.6 ohm single coil) ... The coil then draws 2.4 amps
