Hey! So I've been vaping about 3 months steady now. Got a job at my local vape shop and have been learning an awful lot very quickly, but there are still some things my co workers just haven't shown me yet, or some things they say I just frankly have to discover for myself. Which is totally understandable in any aspect. So, this past Saturday, I purchased my very first dripper. Got a Skyline with a Vulcan addie. I like it a lot so far, but I'm still rocking the original build my manager built for me. Just a 5 wrap dual vertical coil. Great for flavor production, but I'm not getting much vapor out of it. Well, not as much as I would want. I know to chase clouds I'm going to want to get a new addie, but I'm wondering if there's a decent cloud chaser build for the vulcan out there, and what it needs. Still learning the difference between which coil is best for flavor versus which is best for the most vapor. Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. Really want to, for a lack of better term, go overboard learning about this. After all, vaping for me literally pays my bills. So I really want to learn as much as I can about this just in case some of you come and visit me and I can get you set up nice and proper. Thanks in advance for all the help I know you will offer!

What you want and need to know to be a professional in the vape biz can easily fill a book... I know, I've just about written one.

Click on my sigline link below, and quite literally... read every article shown. If you have questions... and you will, PM me.

Good luck becoming a "vapist" Stephi, and welcome to ECF.

You are correct and I thank you for taking the time to do that! Very one sided of me, I apologize!
No apology necessary, Jon.
For plenty of folks, even basic reading can be hard, and articles with a technical bent - which is a good amount of my stuff - can be very intimidating.

I hold no ill will for those that may learn better through example and doing... rather than acquiring a firm grasp of the information by simply reading about it. From years of teaching technical subjects, I can tell you... the latter individual is rarer than you might imagine.

I'm curious on the PG/VG ratio of the juice, the build of the coil, and what mod/pv you're using at what setting?
Skyline mod with a Vulcan addie, just a simple 5 wrap vertical dual coil with 24 Kanthal. Not sure on its ohm reading. I havent put it through a reader yet. (I should before i leave work!) As for my pg/vg...I'm not 100% on that, but I just dripped some cuttwood's Sugar Bear if that gives you any clue. Looking for a good juice still. Trying out what I currently have before I buy any more. Broke girl problems, you know? The juice I am after and plan to buy in the next week or two is going to be Lunar Harvest in probably a 3, so aiming for a 90vg/10pg.

I'll definitely be checking this out! Thank you so much for sharing this! I bet this took a lot of time and hard work to get everything there. Bravo! Sadly, since I dont have wifi at home myself, this will be a work/parents house/library read unless I can get it printed. Ill see what I can do to be able to access this. Thanks again! And Ill definitely be in touch. Seems like I joined the right forum for this. :)

Hmmm vapor production shouldn't be too modest. It may not be exactly a cloud chasing set-up, but it should be fine.

Landed up getting an ohm reader yesterday (finally!) Turns out I'm currently running 0.27. Not too bad, I think it's really me just learning how to hit it. Was messing with it all day yesterday and got a few good clouds out of it. Yes, the build I have everyone I showed it to yesterday said it IS specifically a flavor build, but I'm still experimenting. Planning on a tear down and full rebuild this Sunday. Pictures of the new build to follow once done!

I worked in a vape shop for most of 2014, so I understand being overwhelmed. I thought I was pretty experienced and knowledgeable before I got there, but I only knew what I wanted to know and not a lot about other stuff concerning vaping. I learned a lot from my co-workers, and I believe they learned a lot from me also.

Nothing to add here other than to offer my blogs which are an accumulation of the experience and knowledge I've acquired over the last 3 years vaping.

Vapor production comes from a combination of net coil surface area, wicking and juice type, air flow... and the wattage necessary to heat that net coil surface area. If you're lacking in any of those areas, you'll come up short.

Just a few basic points, for your consideration... some IMO, some incontrovertible fact.
  • The gauge of wire and overall length of that wire is what determines resistance. Coil count is irrelevant.
  • Thicker gauge wire, for a given net resistance, where the finished coil(s) physically fits in the atomizer, provides the greatest surface area.
  • Thicker wire, for a given net resistance, runs cooler than thinner wire, for a fixed wattage value.
  • For a given net resistance, thicker wire requires more wattage to obtain the same heat flux (coil radiant heat) as thinner wire. Thinner wire, although it reduces surface area, can be used to raise heat flux where adjustable wattage (mech mod) is not an option.
  • Higher wattage, for a given net resistance, produces more heat, and requires both better air flow and optimized wicking.
  • "In-coil" wicking that is "loose" vs. "tight" is almost always a better choice, as overly tight fits can choke off the capillary action of the wicking medium.
  • Plain old cotton balls can be "unrolled" perpendicular to the grain, to produce a flat strip of cotton.
  • Always roll cotton wick in parallel with the cotton "grain".
  • In an RDA, high VG juice will produce thicker "cloud" density.
