Leatherbound hand-carved redwood 2x4 with Evercool inside!

Just finished my Evercool mod.

It took almost a month to make and I am pretty proud of it.

I hand carved it out of 2 pieces of 1x4 redwood.

All the switches are recessed which is why it is so large.

I used a slider pot for the voltage adjust

The hinge is made out of two pieces of leather glued in place.

Recessed the led and it was so bright that I had to use blackout paint to dull it down.

Love the grain pattern on redwood, plus it's a soft wood so it was ok to work with. I had to be really careful because the wood splits out so easily.

It seems to change color depending on what angle you look at it.

Very nice wood work really like the glossy finish.

yeah, it took about 5 coats of shellac and 50 coats of wipe on poly to get that gloss. Honestly, that's what took the longest. It has some flaws in the finish, but I can live with it.

You control the brightness of the LED by the value of the resistor used.

Yes, I know. It didn't look that bright until I held it up to my face and took a drag. It was almost blinding. I had already glued everything in place at that point, so I just used the blackout paint to dim it a bit. In hindsight, I should have put it in a different spot so it wasn't aimed at my eyes.

very nice!! I'd love a redwood bottom feed mod. The finish on yours is beautiful!
